Just to add a bit. Regarding boats I can't help feeling that at some stage someone will notice that people are living "too cheap" and start to put in place mechanisms whereby they can get that accommodation money. People shouting about it will just make that happen quicker. I completely agree with this statement, apart from it's not going to happen it has already happened so there's no blaming people for making it happen quicker. The only question is what are YOU going to do about it? Except that it hasn't happened yet has it. It is thankfully still possible to buy a boat and stick a license on it and live on it without needing a mooring. All you have to do is follow some really not very arduous requirements and nothing bad will happen.

People shouting about it will just make that happen quicker. I'm just quoting this again for clarity.you say "at some stage someone will notice" someone has already noticed. Rather than it changing instantly, it's is an ongoing erosion of the liberty to live on a boat on the waterways. So I again say the only question is what are YOU going to do about it?

I don't think it has actually changed very much at all since the 1995 act in reality.
What is it you think I can do about it?

I completely agree with this statement, apart from it's not going to happen it has already happened so there's no blaming people for making it happen quicker. The only question is what are YOU going to do about it? Which comes back to the point that people only usually DO things when they are directly affected. It’s human nature. However social media is desensitising this to a degree by allowing us to be affected by things we wouldn’t have normally been affected by if we hadn’t read it. Bearing in mind there are much worse things going on in the world which don’t make it into the social media. The internet and social media are just tools. Like any tool they can be used for a good or bad purpose. Piss takers use it to spread misinformation to push their extreme agendas, the majority use it to learn and stay in contact with people. The two purposes sadly get mixed up. If someone trying to make a point has lots of funds they might be happy to risk their boat because they have the money to fall back on. However, if say an elderly less-abled person with little money is at risk from ‘enforcement’, they are likely to cave in. I haven’t seen many cases like this in the media recently. I wonder why? How would a story like that make it into the media in the first place? If someone with financial security and a predudice tries to give the impression they are in poverty then claims organisational bullying, isn’t that as much piss taking as an orginisation targeting an individual boater with predudice? The question is further complicated by the fact that many people see living in or near London and earning lots of money as the only road to true happiness Personally I think this is misguided but that is just my view. To give a poor analogy. I had a friend at work years ago who used to claim poverty, well he rarely bought a round in the pub. Many years later I found out he had private pensions and investments everywhere. No wonder he couldn’t afford a round.

It was quite funny this morning when my younger daughter (6.9 years old) told me in no uncertain terms that "houses are NOT homes. BOATS are homes". This was a reaction to visiting someone in a house which we do from time to time. She'd make a good little nbta pirate

7 years which is in a months time.
I'll start her off on a little springer waterbug with a Honda 8 on it.
Eta I don't get out much and interact with real people but when I did so a couple of years ago at a CRT forum I came up against some IWA people (they even had tee shirts with IWA on them). At some point I had the deciding vote as to what to discuss at one particular table between "future of waterways" or "vegetation management" I got some bad looks when I chose the future.
Maybe I should attend more of these things.
I sometimes wonder if there is an age thing going on.

Nice pair of 'ores with it and I like having a nice pair of 'ores about.

Translated: facebook is the devil. London is hell. Boats are wicked. Broadly accurate I would say If either you actually bothered to read what I said, that’s not true. Facebook, London and boats can be good or bad depending how we use them. That’s not rocket science (to steal MM’s favourite saying)
