Have a read seems like once again all the claims for Euro 6 d temp diesels is lies they might be even worse for us than the not so clean ones! When will they realise that they dont work and just ban them in car and van form lorries and buses can have capture equipment fitted to resolve the issue but for cars its a non starter

Every day my news feed has links to the latest petrol 300+HP car new models. I'm not even interested in new cars.
Just what's going on here? Seems like our small corner of the world is heading electric unilaterally. Or will it end up with the plebs crawling around in useless underpowered electrics, fighting over the dearth of charging points they need to charge their knackered batteries every 50 miles while the knobs fork out some tax buying them the right to a 500HP polluter with 1000 mile range?

There will be an exchange of one set of problems for another, its inevitable. I reckon one will be waking up to discover someone has nicked your cars' latest-design super-hi-tech batteries.
One day I met a lady who couldn't walk more than five paces with three wrecks of mobility scooters outside her door. Each one had been smashed open for the batts. She didn't have anywhere else to put them and she knew who the thieves were. People are so lovely.

Unless we're planning on knitting all the new electric cars and battery technology out of lentils, is it going to advance issues at all ?

Rog Probably not Rog, but the likelihood of a reversion to walking and the occasional bus a-la the society described in 'Cider with Rosie' seems unlikely. Mind you so did banning smoking in pubs.

AFAIK most electric cars have immense torque and will not hold up old-fashioned reciprocating carts. I believe the availability of charging points is not (or in the near future will not be) an issue any more for most of the population. Whether or not cars have 300+ hp is largely irrelevant because few folk actually have an opportunity to use them at their peak performance, and many of the high power cars sold these days have economy mode technology (for example that shuts down half the cylinders when cruising).

Personally I think battery-assisted bicycles will get really popular, especially in London and other big cities. Also, a re-think of what a car looks like is overdue - I can see some kind of single seat three wheeled effort with a fairing not unlike the C5. Just so long as the single wheel goes at the back. Not the front. FFS.

Awesome. 100 km range is still inadequate but the concept of lift-out batts for charging elsewhere is great.

Whilst at home I did notice the flashy electric car adverts on tv which boasted of being able to travel 209 miles on a single charge !
I also noticed at Leicester Forest services on the M1 there were two charging points, and hundreds of cars.

We just popped into the mini dealer to get a leaky TPMS tyre valve on Jeff’s Mini fixed. It’s been leaking slowly for a while and tomorrow we are planning to drive the 425 miles down to the boat in it. Whilst waiting I noticed they are now offering an all electric Mini. Range something like 140 miles (on a good day with no heater on etc). So from Aberdeen we would make it to Dundee, but probably not to Glasgow, before having to get out and push. Or we can take Jeff’s petrol mini and get all the way there on one tank-full.
