I did a tour of Eastern Europe via the lager section of our local shop - most of it is garbage; Iβm disappointed Mr Stabby has given up on special brew in favour of that cheap Polish shit. I disagree. Poland has a long tradition as being a beer brewing country and is the third largest beer producer in Europe, after Germany and the UK. Obviously no-one drinks super strength lager for its palatability but Perla Mocna is at least as pleasant as Special Brew (which is to say, not very) but the strength of Special Brew has been reduced twice in recent years while the price has risen by well over the rate of inflation. French beer is shit, but then France is not a beer country. Most UK beer production, and certainly at Northampton, Magor etc is also shit. Near identical liquids pretending to be Dutch, Danish, Australian etc.

Ziewiec (sp) (pronounced sea witch) is okay.
Popular among the gentrifiers in East London yaaah not that I know any of these people but also sometimes ten p cheaper than San Miguel so worth considering as it has similar alcohol content.

Elephant beer is legend, if you ever get the chance go round the Brewery in Denmark, not sure if the Elephant gate is still the entrance to the brewery but it is impressive. Lots of happy memories I was never institutionalised for long enough to get to go to Copenhagen - it is a city Iβd love to visit; leave it a year or two yet I think! As well as the Carlsberg brewery there is also Tuborg although it is no longer independent. And in the 70's Christiania was enjoyable en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freetown_ChristianiaNot forgetting the Tivoli Gardens as well I had to much time off in Copenhagen

I have to agree with Mr Stabby, Polish beer is excellent. I was fortunate enough to live there for a year and sampled many fine brews, very few of which are available over here. One bar in the town I lived in had over 50 brews for sale. I didn't try them all or like all of the ones I did try but many of them were very good. And they were all strong, this gains my approval. I think Polish beer gets a bad name from the most popular Brand; Tyskie. It's not as bad as Carlsberg and is 5%, so just about drinkable but in the scheme of things, it's pretty shit. Why is it that the most famous beers of many countries are amongst the worst that are produced there? Makes no sense.

It's probably a mass production thing. Most people are not connoisseurs they just want a 5% lager/beer product.
I have not had tyskie for years but I think it was more or less the same as the zeiweic which is another commercial lager/beer.
I personally dislike the taste of all beer/lager but quite like the alcohol thing.
I buy almost all my beer in beer shops and if the polish crap is cheaper than the Spanish crap I may buy it although I do usually buy the Spanish crap if I am on beer that particular day.
If I have the misfortune to be in a supermarket I will often buy the cheapest lager they have as long as it is around 5%abv.

Good advertising helps π In my experience Polish beer on sale in Northamptonshire is generally shit. Mr Stabby is correct that Carlsberg will produce any old shit under license these days; at one time the Australians wouldnβt give a xxxx for the stuff coming in tins out of bridge street. Likewise the Germans and the once excellent Holsten pills - all the sugar turns to alcohol along with their legendary reinheitsgebot, doesnβt translate when itβs produced at NN1 1PZ

Sadly; Due to its high abv itβs often favoured by tramps and piss heads. Served correctly itβs weak good as they say in Kettering ππ

I've been dieting this summer. 6ft2.5 (medium to large "frame") and 70kg was much too heavy for me. I think I've got it down to 65kg now. With this trapped nerve problem causing me walking trouble and the whole face mask in shops stopping me going shopping I can see this diet thing going on a fair while longer. By Christmas I'll probably be down around my correct weight which is about 58kg. Are you sure about those weights? I'm 5 foot 10, in half decent shape, around 80KG. I'm 5'10 too but 74kg - and I should get rid of 2kg. Time for you to hike the Pennine Way.

Mr Stabby Joking aside I hadnβt realised Special Brew has had its wings clipped so severely down from full fat 9% to a fraction above Elephant beer (7.2%) I retract the tramps and pissheads slur π’

Finland these days produces some very respectable beers to be found in supermarkets, I have just had a can of Aura dark 5.2% and nothing to moan about.
