If you're the type who 'likes a glass of red with dinner, but it must be a good Australian Cabernet' or similar please feel free to comment, but this thread might not be for you.
I like a drink every other night. I look for something that tastes OK, and is easy on the pocket in getting me to a state of semi oblivion. My usual tipple is a bottle of Grapevine red from Aldi, £3.69 or Koolibura £3.99, also from Aldi.
From time to time I like something a bit different. More so at the moment because Aldi in Nantwich has closed down. I've found 'HCC Black' cider in Home Bargains. £3.49 for 4 cans. 7.5%, 3 cans do the job. I'm not a great cider drinker, especially the stronger ones but this one isn't half bad. Drinkable, not too sweet and I feel fine in the morning. They also do HCC pear which is the same strength but it's not for me, far too sweet.
Anyone else look for strength, value for money and drinkable rather than worrying too much about the taste? What's your tipple?

Aldi in Nantwich has closed down ?
Permanently ?
I've never heard of an Aldi closing down anywhere, so this is a surprise.

Yes, me, my tipple of choice is Perla Mocna (Pearl Strong), a surprisingly tasty 7.6% Polish lager which costs £30 for a case of 24 cans from a convenience store in St John's Road, Coventry, which, in the privacy of our car my boys and I still refer to as "the Paki Shop" despite the contemporary political incorrectness of such a term.

Personally I got bored of getting drunk a while back, although on occasion it can have its moments (depends on the company). I gave up selecting beer on the basis of its alcohol content quite some time ago. However sniffing out something drinkable from the bottom shelf of the wine aisle is a favourite sport - sometimes it works out, sometimes not. Sticking to Aussie and South African produce is often a good call. Asda had some great SA Pinotage a little while back.
One thing I've never understood is why alkes always seem to prefer cider. Anybody know why?

I quite like S American red ATM....got case of little bottles(so I don't drink large one at a time..it works) of a Chilean red. White I tend to drink a variety ..Pinot and Chardonnay..there are a few I quite like Never touch beer, cider or lager Do enjoy Champagne and feel following my 60th year that I know bit about this drink....... I don't drink every night and when I do, unless daughter here its only a small bottle... So I wouldn't describe myself as a hardened drinker...tbh I cannot drink very much due to medical issues. Rarely touch spirits though I do like few rum based cocktails... they are a rare treat.

Toro Loco from Aldi is good to drink Serves as a suitable replacement for the expensive Rioja.

Anybody know why? A pathologist once explained it to me . Alcohol is a poison and the bodies natural reaction is to reject it (vomit etc) or pass out. The best way to get drunk and stay drunk whilst still drinking Is not by high alcohol content (spirits at 40% proof and more) but rather by mid level alcohol levels, for example sherry was a one time favourite. However these days as @blacksheep said, ciders are very cheap and do the job very well. Rog

I love ale and beer, red wine and cognag.
I love to drink the above, but I don't like getting drunk, I mean silly drunk, I like the nice warm feeling of the first beer, I like the taste of the drink I have, I wont drink something just to get drunk though, leave that for the younglings.
I am sure my doctor would say I drink too much sometimes, but I try and have a few days off, like all this week, when I go on the boat I drink more, not sure why that is though.
Sometimes I wish I didn't enjoy drinking, then I would be quite happy to never drink again.
Peanuts, scratchings, pork pie with mustard, scotch eggs and ale.. heaven!

My mate (76 years) is very over weight and loves to drink ... not getting drunk ... beer, wine, spirits (particularly whisky) in a social setting ... he really is a 'party animal'. He's just been warned he MUST significantly alter his diet and alcohol intake to avoid diabetes(type two) ... if he can improve these issues he is advised diabetes is still avoidable ... he has six months to turn it around apparently. I'm sure he will ... definitely worth avoiding whatever it takes, even at 76 years. Rog PS I like foxy's choice but usually stick to blended like Bells, Whyte and Mackay etc. as it is cheap and I like drinking whisky

We have a friend, lady, who drinks this kind of stuff, she also buys a crate of 24 each week to consume, I do wonder why choose higher strength, is it to drink less and still feel the same buzz, or is it to drink the same and get more pissed?
