Are folding bikes easy to fold? .. I don't have room for proper bike at mine and although I'm not so keen on cycling I do keep thinking it might be a good idea. Did have a bike but little sis took it off my hands and my next one I gave away...it was always storage issue Brompton cycles seem to be the gold standard of folding bikes. But crikey the price makes you wince.

Prompted by @nemesis post I had a cursory look ...
£1175 for a 16" wheel, three speed gear, Brompton folding cycle.
£300 for a 20" wheel, seven speed gear, Raleigh folding cycle.
Can a Brompton REALLY be £875 better than a Raleigh ?
Seems an extraordinary price difference to do similar jobs.
Anyone got any comparison knowledge ?

Bromptons are very popular. I think they look mildly ridiculous but practicality wise I guess they do the job.
It could be a status product I suppose, like having a mercedes rather than a ford when they both do exactly the same thing.
I had a Bickerton years ago. That really was ridiculous. It felt like the whole thing was going to suddenly fall apart.
Very flexible bike but also quite fun and satisfactory.

Originally I had a cut found folding shopper, then acquired another similar, for our first cabin cruiser. I then was offered a 6 speed Brompton for £200. The difference is incomparable, especially folded size. Rigid and stable when riding too. Also had a Bickerton, the sort Nigel Moore took on his jaunts. Light but a bit bendy. The Brompton now lives in the boat.

I thought a nice folding mountain bike would be ok for the boat, even when folded it looks large inside the cabin, and is usually in the way, so it lives on the bow chained up when on the boat, then man handle into the boat when away.
Always seem to knock an elbow or scrape a shin when manhanling it also.
Easier to walk half the time

Eleven hundred quid is a lot of money ... I'm really struggling to see how it can be almost four times better than the bike costing £300

How hot was the Brompton you got for £200? It was the second one I got, first one, a 3 speed, got for £120 off an old boater. I sold it twice, for £500 each time, first guy sent it back in a tantrum cos it wasn't new and pristine, eBay ruled in my favour. Sold it when Noreen could no longer ride a bike. A neighbour turned up on the 6speed asking if I wanted to buy it, I thought I'd bid low at £200, for him to bargain up. He bit and then after I'd paid said I was no good at bargaining, silly twunt didn't know they go for £500 easy, he thought he'd bested me.

One of the woman's friends from France had her new Brompton when we went to Paris a few years ago. Good at English and I was constantly reminding/winding her up about not taking her eye off the bike or someone will grab it.
It was okay but slightly annoying.
I imagine statistics are compiled by some anorak somewhere about bike theft and I can't help thinking these ones would be high up on the list but probably not at the top as you can take them with you.
