I disagree, I think the point which was being made is that it's much easier to find information about someone these days with the Internet. It does require a seed of truthful information though, otherwise it's easy to tar some poor soul with someone else's brush. What I find interesting is how some people are very open about their identity on the Internet and others use anonymity. It seems we usually use anonymity to either protect ourselves from malicious people or to carry out malicious acts (or both!). What I am certain of is that most of the flame we see on forums wouldn't happen if all parties involved were not anonymous, or more pertinent, discussed things face to face. Oh I do not think that was the intent of the post so to indicate; rather it was meant to frighten maybe even threaten. 90% of the alleged information on the WWW is incorrect and for that reason cannot be used without other major proof. Your statement "...it's easy to tar some poor soul with someone else's brush." is the reason why who people really know about the WWW use a VPN, never put confidential information about themselves online, do not have facebook accounts, or tweet, etc and never use unsecured and unencrypted routes. Unfortunately there is more malicious intent on the WWW than there is anything else. Information I saw recently strongly suggested that more than 50% of the traffic on the WWW is related to malicious intent. I am not at all sure about your second paragraph last sentence. You are probable too young to remember the pub society particularly around docks, factories etc it did not matter that people were face to face and they certainly did not discuss things they did that day's version of flaming as you call it. It would appear that bullying is worse today than it was when I was born. Well now the CWF eruption has blown over, I see mainly good humour, humility, kindness and useful information on here now. I see very little bullying. In fact from your posts I get the impression it's all water off a ducks back to you. Are you saying you feel bullied now?

graham was a bit obsessed with my personal details ie name and where I live, even though it's public domain information. Funny that! NOT! As you have not infrequently mentioned in your postings information that indicates that you live in Aberdeen. I suspect the majority if not all of the regular posters of this site know full well that you live in Aberdeen. If I was interested I could probably find out more but frankly you are not worth the effort.

However you are the only one who feels the need to mention my full name and town of residence as if it gives you some power over me, or for some other slightly weird reason. Oh I should have said you and graham of course!

Wotever or wotever you call yourself here you are stupid and I hope no one ever takes your advice and connects two batteries bank for days, weeks or months using a jump lead style cable and there is an accident. I hope anyone who read and takes this advice will know where to find you to sue you for the advice and damage and delta9 for that matter as he published it. Sorry D9 but that is where the law stands and lays the responsibility on the advice giver, if a competent person, and the publisher. Wotever has displayed himself here as a competent person on the subject on this and other sites. Ooh look, that's a coincidence isn't it! thunderboat.boards.net/post/25825LOL well spotted! If Geo isn't indeed Graham then he must be his twin brother. Anyway back to the question at hand, if TC has a sealed or newish starter batt then it should hold enough charge just fine over winter. Though batts do underperform in cold temps, the rate of discharge slows down too which is handy. If the jump lead option doesn't appeal, one alternative is to make a 12V test lamp with croc clip ends, from a 20W car tail light bulb. Then connect that between domestic batt bank positive and starter batt positive. When the lamp is cold it should be about an ohm say which is enough for a trickle charge from the domestics to start batt when the solar is going. If one end of the test lamp does falls off and a clip contact the hull, the worst that can happen is that it'll drain the starter batt.

That is thethe centNowConcorde gave the impression world had got smaller because people could get from A to B mckly, so gave humans the suggestion of a reduction in the size world. The Internet has done no such thing. It still take as long to drive from London to Aberdeen, home of the Nick Norman, as it did the day that Leonard Kleinrock published his paper "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets". That lead to what is now called the Internet. Nor did what happened on that day in 1969, when the first message was sent on the Internet make it any smaller. Dates I remember, but no the world did not get any smaller. Since that day in 1969 the probability is the world has actually got larger, not by a huge amount in terms of the world, but larger it has got. I disagree, I think the point which was being made is that it's much easier to find information about someone these days with the Internet. What I am certain of is that most of the flame we see on forums wouldn't happen if all parties involved were not anonymous, or more pertinent, discussed things face to face. Heartily agree that anonymity permits some individuals to behave in a way they perhaps wouldn't if they were readily identifiable to others. I raised this issue many moons ago on the other site, and learned from several posters that there are occasionally good reasons for using a nom de plume, that I had not considered. Most people behave respectfully anyway, but there are a few who, as you say, use the anonymity to behave badly. Of course this 'tar' of bad behaviour will stick to that on line personality anyway. It used to ammuse me that many posters over there, clamouring for CWDF stickers, hid even basic information, like age. In fairness, Mr Brooks and Mr Norman are open and readily identifiable, and both have gone out of their way to assist others with their expertise. Rog

You mean "Thunderbanters" ? I don't think I have met anyone on here over a beer. Would be quite good but I guess people are a bit widely spread geographically.

Another way to link the batteries is to use a "caddy motion". This is a product for golfers with a slightly funny story to it. Basically you wire it to your car battery and put a golf caddy battery on the tray wire it up it will charge when engine is running. So that's handy. £59.99 or whatever in the shops. Loads and loads were manufactured. Not many sold and a load of stock was dumped via Poundland of all places. So people bought them from Poundland and sell them for profit on flea bay. They do work but require alternator charging voltage so possibly not ideal for the OP's requirements. Just thought I would mention it anyway as think its quite funny. Not a proper belly laugh just a wry smile and light giggle. This item: it sounds like something you carry with you while golfing if you need to have an unexpected shit and there are no bushes. pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=222325113839&alt=web

I guess the 2.4W panel TC has is some weedy ~12V car charger type thing. But you could wire it to a 12V relay so it connects the batt positives together while the sun is shining and the solar is on. I'd also include an inline fuse or breaker at each end to protect the relay wiring and contacts.

I'd also include an inline fuse or breaker at each end to protect the relay wiring and contacts. A few years ago I was experimenting with an old motorised satellite dish mount (as you do) and made up a basic solar tracker. It worked nicely. For turning on the actuator I used a very small (about 4x2 inch) solar panel which I wired directly to a 6v relay. This was angled at 90 degrees to the main panel so when the sun moved across to shine on the miniature panel it would activate the actuator. Then stop when the main panel was aligned and the small one shaded. This could alternatively form the basis of a split charger system actuated when it is sunny.
