Oh dear have we bruised your ego, you are a silly idiot, If someone want a very long drive in the UK personally I always come up with London to Aberdeen and as this bit of the thread is about you the penny drops so why not add your name. Now as to full name it is plastered all over the other site so that too is such a lot of effort like none. Well I do have a brother and he lives not very far from you in Scotland, his name is not graham, a quick look at the maps less than five miles away. "Have WE bruised your ego" - "we" presumably being you and you doppelgänger graham? Anyway, let's just hope your brother isn't your identical twin! lol You do have a misguided chip on your shoulder. I doubt that anyone given 20 people in a room would pick my brother & I as being brothers. Just noticed I shall be up there in January, going stalking, looking to bring two back for the freezer. Nice it does not cost a penny, except the travel and I drive up. Find a client on the way up who needs a visit and most of the travel is nothing. I see you lot managed to upset Admin this evening. Tut He will get the ban stick out soon. Well better go and be social, I do hate these doo's much happy of an evening by the fire with a brandy and a good book.

This has turned back into an pleasant, interesting discussion thread between adults (with the addition of a few gaps)

there's a couple of live threads on batteries and cables on CWDF - why not go over there while we all (few?) have a nap?

Despite all the squabbling I've gone and done the job, as was suggested in post 2 probably a waste of time but as I was working in the engine ole anyway I gave it a go. I deliberately chose a dull overcast day so the panels wouldn't be raising the voltage of the domestic bank. After measuring a 1.4v difference between the two batteries I put on my jump lead with its well insulated crocodile clips and measured the current with my clamp meter. I stayed in close attendance in case a Croc clip yawned and after 20 minutes the current had dropped to well under half an amp, job done and I carefully removed the jump lead. Let the batteries sit for half an hour and the starter battery was sitting at 12.80 vs 12.78 when I started.
Would I bother again, probably not.

Top Cat Glad to see your boat didn't blow up or catch fire TC. As you say, probably hardly worth the effort but it's one of those "why not?" situations.
