I have never heard of anybody painting the whole boat in bitumin, Is it a done thing? Only in Skipton. And only if your name is Max. Thought so, i kinda bowed out of that thread when she said that she didnt know how to post a picture on the forum allthough she had three computers an iphone and used LINUX as her avatar. I know i am gonna get bollocked hollow for this but if missmax was a mister max that thread would not have gone past ten pages except to rip him to shreds.

agree
a lot of sad old gits feeling patronising towards a vulnerable and hopeless young lady (who has now spitefully turned and bitten them in the arse).

A group of helpful people offering their advice and recommendations for free on an internet forum dedicated to canal boats. Maybe a little like this place!

Hang on, is this the woman that bought the boat just because it was blue? Or am I thinking of someone else? I'm not convinced that that was her sole motivation but she did joke that it was.

Not so sure about that! (referring back to Bodgers post. I type too slow :-) ) I think the thread continued as long as it did because of the posting style of Miss max. It made it very readable. I don't agree that she was given advice by "sad old gits" but when she asked for help with a particular aspect of boat ownership, she got helpful replies. It very quickly became clear that she didn't have a clue about living on or dealing with things on her boat so when she said about leaving a bucket of hot ash in the bathroom (which burned a hole in what was below) then showed that she had sealed up her mushroom vents, I think folk not surprisingly got concerned for her life and tried to advise her about safer practices. That didn't go down well and it was at that point that her posts became a bit odd. I think, reading between the lines, that she jumped into boat ownership without giving it much thought, paid over the odds for a boat which seemed to have many non working features then realised that she had made a mistake. I won't be surprised if the boat is put up for sale but not sure how being painted in bitumen and sealant is going to help the price.
I do hope she gets things sorted out and feels she can return to the forum at some point in the future.

Most people who posted appeared to be more experienced around boats, including the numerous ladies who contributed.

I'm still reading that thread - one thing that puzzles me is the spelling mistakes which don't make sense as it's obvious she can spell. If the thread were printed out and copies left in in-flight magazines for long-haul say to Osaka or Cape Town it would while the journey away comfortably.

I have never heard of anybody painting the whole boat in bitumin, Is it a done thing? Had to laugh at the pitures of the mushroom vents all covered in a gallon and a half of silicon and goop, looks like a job that might have been done in anger. This barge appears to have the hull coated with bitumen all the way up to the rubbing strake. Lovely, eh?

Well, that photo didn't turn out big enough to really see what the hull looks like, but it's pretty darn ugly - the coating, not the hull. The hull has gorgeous lines.
