I had exactly the same problem on a shower on a boat.
Why they use a mild steel screw I will never know (oh yes its designed to fail and they want you to buy a new assembly for silly ££). Have seen the same thing on a "dump through" sea land toilet. Not nice.
Anyway with the shower drain I managed to remove the rusted bit and drilled right through and reassembled with a long -stainless steel- bolt.

I'm inclined to cut to the chase and replace the fitting, but if it doesn't want to come out then bodgery will be attempted before mass destruction. Lot's of tea breaks usually help me avoid doing anything too rash.

No. Sorry about that I didn't read the thread properly. I had full access so was able to remove the whole thing.

That looks a right bastard, i hope you can remove the screw before you have to strip down half your boat.

But it was actually exactly the same problem with exactly the same fitting by the look of it. I think its just wrong blah blah blah rant they even put mild steel bolts on parts of toilets subject to damp blah blah Its an outrage !!

I don't know about you, but I try to keep predictable possible disappointment for mornings.
With that in mind I didn't tug on the pipe (ooer missus) until just now. 3" then dead stop. Fingers down the plug hole find there's a notched wooden bearer, the notch only deep enough for the pipe. The fitting is hard plastic so won't squeeze out through the tray hole without breaking.
The only possibility now is to try hacking the plastic around the rusted screw stub...

Ouch !!! That is an appalling bit of design !!!
It amazes me just how often workman ignore the problems of both maintenance and of any other tradesman who follows. I was asked to do a repair job on a (Seagoing) tug, which would have involved checking for a hidden junction/damaged cable in the wheelhouse. I found that all the cables were in channels along one bulkhead and under the decking......... excellent ...... except some idiot had fitted all the wheelhouse furniture, lockers, bench seats and chart table supports in such a way that it would all have to be removed to get the covers off ..... and guess what, it is all glued and screwed...... needless to say I turned the job down ........ and so far they have been unable to find anyone else that will touch it.
