And the stove... Here's a better pic, there is hope. I can get a good grip, I've wiggled for 20 mins, no movement and I do not want to twist the stub off.

I guess it would get pretty hot in the ash pan, I'll try that. I'm starting to enjoy this.

For what it costs I would buy a new waste fitting. You may salvage the current one, but it would not be funny if the hash chemicals caused to get the rusty bit out were to craze the surface or even degrade the plastic such that it splits in 6 months time.

I probably will, but it's Sunday so I have nothing to loose today. I'm trying heat, It's in the ash pan. Even if I get it out I don't think I have a small enough stainless screw so I'll be stuck for now.

You'll just have to drink the whisky without it then I think I'll have an early one. I have a bottle of Ardbeg on the go, I wouldn't sully it with coke.

The stub sheared off flush so that, as they say, is that.
I threw away a TWO fittings like this a few months ago. Sod's law in action.

I will move forwards at a haphazard pace until it's finished. I've almost finished destroying so it's all positive from here on.

I suspect what may happen is the fitter loses the original stainless screw and is too lazy to source another one so just sticks a plated steel one in. If the mfr has gone to the trouble of providing a brass insert I'd hope they'd not have supplied a cheap steel screw, in any case a good fitter would spot this and replace with stainless. You have my sympathies, I've redone a few shower trays in my time, My weapon of choice was using a snap off utility knife used in a most inadvisable manner, but with hand and eye protection in case the inevitable blade breakage happened. BTW is this a high end fit out from one of the top builders? I'd hope not...

BTW is this a high end fit out from one of the top builders? I'd hope not... I had blades for a snap off but couldn't find the bloomin knife, I used a bendy kitchen knife in the end. I think it might be a case of supplier making up kits, the drain thing with 6 holes is also poor quality but as you say, weighty brass fitting and the rest of the lower part is good quality. It's 28 years old and used to have a bath. The whole bathroom was redone maybe 18 years ago. I'm happy with it generally but due to it's age it does suffer from retrofittyitus. One thing on top of another, cables shoved through holes, old services not removed...

If you're in a jam and want it back together asap, a suitable nut or two might be a tight enough fit in the hole where the insert was, use a screw to push/pull the nuts in (ouch!) maybe some heat on the screw would soften the plastic a bit.
Some araldite would be belt and braces, I'd also put in a screw with wax on the thread while it sets.
