Latest news is that we are on the VM at lock 36 so we've just started dropping down towards Tod. As JimRiley said, we met up today and had a chat, and I obtained some local info, Jim also pointed out a piece of wood in the cut which would be perfect as a hand spike for the C&H... that's the second Thunderboater I've met on this trip. Day off in Tod I think. Think you've earned a day off. Rog

As Patty has said .... enjoy your day off ..... you have certainly earned it. Congratulations on fixing it yourself !!! give yourself an exceedingly well deserved pat on the back !!! ........ Don't it feel good when you manage on your own resources

On the subject of the RCR engineer, he arrived in a covered Mitsubishi pick up truck. After getting on the counter he asked my son to fetch a pickaxe from it. My boy said that he was expecting there to be a huge red toolbox and loads of power tools in the rear, but when he opened it up, all the engineer had brought was the pickaxe, a sledgehammer and a length of 4x2 timber. All he did was poke half-heartedly at the mattress with the pickaxe for a few minutes then gave up.

A pickaxe to clear a prop foul.
Hmm. Well thats a new one for me !
The list of tools sounds more like a drug dealer's personal protection equipment.
I'm shocked someone in a mitsubishi pickup does not have a cordless angel grinder with them I thought it was a legal requirement.

I wasn't there so can't say, really - but - what happened then? Off he went and they charged you for a 'callout'? OK, so they refunded the credit, but I find it hard to believe that you were just abandoned like that, and in an area known for its dangers. At the least the RCR bloke should have then been asking for proper assistance. Any damage to the boat from objects thrown at it?
As I said, I think the papers missed out on this one, would have been a good half-page article.
I'll add that I have mostly read positive comments about RCR.
This is the third time we've paid membership for RCR: first was Dec 2014 - Mar 2016 £140, then Mar 2016 - Mar 2017 (I forget how much, roughly £120?), and now £129 Mar 2017 - Mar 2018. I shall be expecting something better than a prod with a pickaxe for almost £400.

Exactly that, although he stood around for a few minutes and watched my boy and myself bow-hauling the boat up towards the lock landing, and with his hands in his pockets he actually said "I really wish there was more I could do".

Just read the thread on cwdf with reference to this incident, and watched the idiot tree monkey make a twat of himself again, and then further make himself look stupid by telling GG to go do some baking. Honestly, they're are some proper genuine twats about, thankfully most seem to be contained within the parameters of cwdf.

Yes, Tree Monkey doesn't appear to be too bright, the post on CWDF was made by my son, who is aboard with me. He isn't banned from CWDF and there seems to be no reason why he should be as he didn't vote for Brexit.
