Probably as a deterrent to abusers? Maybe to help prevent the lead-swingers from just SAYING they have a bad back?

It would be interesting to know why you think CRT have set up a proceedure for "authorising" overstays, and added a section to their patrol notice to charge for overstaying, installed charge notices at various VM's and said publically that they had no plans to charge anyone, and decreed that a VM is a now a facility and therefore can be legally charged for Are they proposing to charge for VM or just the overstay on the VM ? [ You'll find they have plans to charge for any mooring that isn't your home mooring, at some stage. They are just laying the foundations for this one step at a time. They have already established the price £25 a night, getting moorings considered "facilities" is part of this process.

How could they do that? Don't CCers stay on VMs? That would be over £9,000 per year for a CCer.

Where are these plans or is it just a case of supposition ,i.e.If they start charging for VMS it could be the next step

BUGGER !!!!
I just wrote a post and tried to get clever for humerous effect and lost the whole bloody thing !!!!
..... I can't be arsed to do the whole thing again but basically ........
....."that sounds like paranoia" ........... "however didn't someone say earlier just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean someone isn't out to get you".........
(replying to the estimate that it would cost a ccer £9k a year) ............ that would cost every boater ..........couldn't do that as it would outrage every single boater and for once solidarity would be achieved.

Cc'ers don't have to stay on vm's they can moor any where. There is a section in the iwa that have been pushing for a long time for cc'ers to pay an extra mooring liscence. So they contribute the same as home moorers. Cds, this has been first bw then crt's intention for a long time. I know because of conversations I've had with "managment" and conversations that various friends of mine that run hire boat companies have had with "managment" If you want another sign of the implementation of this policy, think about the bookable moorings in London. It will all be implemented in the name of "fairness" because we all know those nasty cc'ers hog all the facilities. It wouldn't be £9000 a year would it, it would be your liscence plus £25 times how many times you stayed on a visitor mooring. It won't make me feel good but in 2-3 years time when we've sleep walked into this and you have basically parking meters on vm's with private companies doing the money collection and enforcement on them. I will definately say "told you so." Look for some more signs of the policy being implemented in this new "London mooring policy"

I think you need to add the word Pseudo ...... as in....... those nasty pseudo cc'ers hog all the facilities ...... lets be honest, reaL CC'ers would be spread all over the system and even with the numbers including the shunters in London (who are there purely for housing) it wouldn't be a problem. Yet again, it is people exploiting a loophole in one system to find an answer for a fault in a totally different system. Don't get me wrong on this, if I was in a desperate situation I would be looking for a solution anywhere I could find it. However if you are trying to solve the problem you have to go to the primary cause and attack that, not widen the loophole to the detriment of the other system.

John I am absolutely "Fucking Stunned" about this continued mantra of yours about CC hogging the facilities. Can I beg you to accept that this is NOT occurring as widespread as you seem to believe. If you are talking Water and Sanitation Points they are empty from one hour to the next up and down the GU South, this John is a fact. What are you talking about when you mention these Loopholes?

Sorry I thought I'd made it clear, Crt are intending to charge for visitor moorings. This imformation comes from conversations myself and friends who run hire boat companies have had with managment. John I used "nasty cc'er" to try and highlight that they are using the "cc'er issue" as a smoke screen to introduce these policies.

Thanks for that confirmation. Can I now tell you that I believe CRT will make no money out of this Policy all it will do is either keep the mooring empty if it is charged daily and provide a quick turnover if it is charged after 48 hrs.

I hope they never get to implement in the form they want to. But this depends on boaters, as they are promoting it as a part of the solution to the "cc'er problem" unfortunately part of the boating community will welcome it.

It is now, I admit a while since I came through London (this year I am going to jump up the country by trailer) but then it was solid with moored boats often doubled up in all the decent sensible spots (and quite a few that were not). to the point it was difficult finding a mooring spot for the night Now I admit that some areas you would want to moor up as a group for safety but everywhere was just so damned crowded as to make travelling through a chore. as regards a "loophole" are you seriously telling me that moving only 10 or 20 miles a year while claiming to be continuously cruising isn't having a giraffe ?

London is barely worthy of comment John as both you and I have argued it several times,it is an anomaly simply because of the unique housing situation there. There is no distance recommendation by statute,CRT recommend a 20 mile minimum and people comply. If CRT are happy why should we be bothered?Like it or lump it John a boat has become a home for a lot of people, some vulnerable, some on low income,Doctors and Nurses its a broad spectrum.I would like to see more affordable moorings WHERE their required John but the usual suspects just go on relentlessly about Distance. It is taking us nowhere and as we sit tossing the same points of view over and over we miss an opportunity to debate more relevant solutions.I throw one into the mix, use it as a Thread Title, these Brownfield sites by the canal side, would they not be better developed as moorings for boaters than houses for millionaires?
