Some pondering as a result of the 'where am I thread'.
I mentioned a low bridge that had a sign indicating the height (acceptable in my opinion) but the most obvious sign was one that said something like 'Neighbourhood Watch Area - Scrotes are around'. What is the difference between the NHW sign and graffiti that says fuk u bitch - both send out a warning.

Easy question - The NHW sign is put up by affluent middle class people to protect their stuff (so classed by the ruling classes as good) and graffiti is done by poor disengaged individuals and so classed as bad.

I massively dislike the idea of Neighbourhood Watch, it sounds too creepy. I quite like quality graffiti though.

And more to the point, what is the difference between institutional graffiti such as we now have at Old Turn Jn, and quality yoof graffiti such as banksy / replicas thereof? I'd say the latter is much better! I agree with what I think is your sentiment, there are far too many stupid signs, many driven by elfinsafety, creating eyesores and visual clutter

One of the best signs I've seen was a skull and crossbones nailed to a tree in the Crychan Forest with the warning 'Abandon hope all ye who enter' Up there with the 'challenging' checks in Geriant Jones playground that is the Hafren and Sweet Lamb and Tommy Breezes (RIP) inhospitable waste land in the Red Lion check. God I miss doing the Welsh Two Day Enduro

There is some really stylish Graffiti around and some pretty awful stuff...Like to see the good artistic efforts both here and abroad... brightens up dull places.. Don't like all those written signs that are sprouting up warning us of big brother watching, neighbourhood vigilantes, clamping risk... near me there is a footpath with sinister warnings of being watched by CCTV I guess by the local land owner....I always feel intimidated and think someone will shout especially as there is a chain round the gate...

Just to derail my own thread Should people comment or be outraged about drink drivers and others that cause death or injury by road accidents v comment or be outraged by people who commit suicide or self harm. After all more people die from suicide than road accidents.

After all more people die from suicide than road accidents. There is a huge difference. You can choose to commit suicide and self harm but you don't choose to get killed by a drunk driver. You could argue that those who commit suicide get no choice due to the pressure of the system and marketing forces. So does that mean the system and marketing forces are as bad as a drunk driver?

Suppose in my mind it's a question of priority (both mine and the powers that be). Suppose I just am destined to think more about where I can aim me very limited help to the rest of the world. Just my own pondering though... Agree with your second sentence.

I like the graffiti on a railway bridge which says: JESUS IS COMING - underneath which some wag has added: 'only if he remembers to change in Reading!'
