I know there are some really bad and much worse things going on in the world at the moment but that is not to say other things cannot be mentioned as things that really boil my piss. Pretty disgusting to think anybody would even contemplate doing such a thing. It caught my eye as it was on our local news Middlesbrough being close to where I live. According to the news (and the x-ray they showed) the male's neck was broken. news.rspca.org.uk/2017/04/26/rspca-appeal-after-swans-attacked-in-middlesbrough-park/I remember something similar happening at Burton-on-Trent when we used to boat around there, though I think they 'only' smashed the eggs in that case. How utterly stupid/thick do you have to be to do this??

So I am told swans are good eating and so are the eggs!! We have the police around all the time as we have upwards of 60 swans at the turning hole and a population of 4000 eastern europeans about 400 yards away. Fishing by half net is common and trying to catch the swans the same, different standards to us they just dont care as its allowed in their country

Somebody told me the other day that there was a bloke putting his spaniels in the cut to kill the ducklings on purpose. Ok not so regal as the swantons but really?! God help us! One thing to kill to eat but at least let em grow up first!

I think you may jumping the gun by saying for "the sheer hell of it" Martin. Perhaps cast an eye towards the local fishing club, who have water bailiffs looking out for: swans, cormorants etc. Which could/would do damage to their fish stocks. As many fishing clubs do stock the water with fish, so they want to protect their investment by whatever means.

It is a sad state of affairs though totally pointless I would break their necks for them to see how they liked it

Well if that is true it only goes to reinforce what I've felt about fisher folk for many years.....

I have known a water bailiff / river keeper deliberately sprinkling iced water onto swans eggs years ago. Another favourite was to wade into a river and accidentally standing on swans eggs in the water reeds on the way in. It wouldn't surprise me if the practices still continues to this day.

Very wasteful to kill it and not bother eating it.

The problem here is that swans bear grudges, and if you kill one they will hunt down your family and break their arms with their wings. Probably.

Swans look really pretty but are tad touchy, territorial....I love to see them but wouldn't get to close. As for eating them...theres enough other products about without partaking of forbidden food.

It would have been a laugh NOT to catch her (snigger!). "Cheryl was oozing attitude on stage and was seen grabbing her crotch" (crabs?)
