While trawling ebay ads I noticed this unit. Its quite interesting as it has a water cooled single cylinder Lister. I guess that will be a LPW1. No details of output on the ad. I have asked the seller and what engine it is. A lister single is not going to be very powerful so maybe its a traffic light 110v unit? Does anyone recognise it ? pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=262964924338&globalID=EBAY-GB

An unusual format, I haven't come across a vertically stacked one like that before. I wonder what the drive to the alternator is Certainly a neat idea to get a small footprint.
eta presumably it also allows for a gearing up to allow a lower engine speed ?

It does look very unusual, I don't think its a lpw though.

I'm not sure it is vertical looking at the radiator filler angle.

Whichever, still an unusual format

I'd be wary. He's sold six items on eBay and got 2 negative feedbacks. Does not say if it's a runner or not.

I imagine he has sold other things without the burden of ebay fees. It would be a case of finding a phone number and arranging to have a look at it. I don't think it'll be a runner and I'm not buying it but was interested in what it is. I reckon its a traffic light generator so probably high hours.

Have sent ebay message but can't be arsed to phone.
I've not come across many different small single cylinder water cooled listers. Petter and Kubota seem to be much more common. I realise Lister/Petter confuses the issue as well.
could be an AB1W but thats a Petter engine.

Probably right yes. Even being water cooled it may well be a noisy thing.

Your thread jogged my memory of these - why I'm not sure, may have been Kris's mention of traffic light sets.
My mates dad used to work on them, he was an apprentice motorcycle mechanic in the early 60's, the shop in Stony Stratford he worked at did a sideline on small engine plant and garden equipment.
He reckoned it was great fun having races clutching on to the damn things!
Looks bloody hairy to me!

Traffic light sets were originally Petter AA1's derated to 1500 rpm, 1500 w ,110 volt.
The set in question is a military paint colour, wiring connectors, and data plate. ( Belt driven alternator )
