I recall a few years ago catching some fly tippers red handed, whilst out 4x4 driving with a mate on Salisbury Plain. A mountain of rubbish, ranging from the obligatory fridge, sofa, old battery etc etc, had been deposited from the back of their builders van We had blocked their only escape route, and had called the police, they were both banged to rights. To cut a long story short. When the fly tippers case went to court, all the magistrates did to the miscreants was to fine them a measly £25 quid each. Some deterrent ! Probably still worked out cheaper for them than taking it to the dump in a commercial vehicle.

From your link:
"The council is gutless, spineless, toothless and hopeless regarding this recurring issue. What I can't understand is WHY? Surely it's in their interests for the city to be attractive, never mind the crime that often accompanies these low-lifes."
"The sad fact of economics with this situation is that our taxes are paying to clear up the Travellers vandalism, probably c£5000!! This money could have been used to the real benefit of deserving citizens. Unbelievable that we put up with repeated antisocial behaviour and subsequent costs foisted on us by these leeches on decent society? What can we do?"
Foxy says: Surely it's simple? A hefty fine, if they can't pay sell their vehicles at an auction or scrap them, and prison. I should also like to say 'exterminate them' but then I'd get moaned at.

Nibbling around the edges still I see? Go back a few more why's. The political system is rotten to the core, it is not there to represent the population, it's there to use it, and until it's reformed this kind of situation will persist.

Gypsies set up a cut-price rubbish collection service for local homeowners only to leave it dumped in a woodland clearing when they left their illegal campsite. The travellers took cash from residents in Stockwood, Bristol, in return for providing a cheap 'tip-run' to the council's household recycling centre just three miles away. But instead of disposing the junk properly they dumped it on a large clearing behind their camp, hidden by trees. It includes furniture, fridges, ovens, kitchen units, a Henry vacuum cleaner, an entire sofa - and even bin liners filled with cannabis plants. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4518524/Bristol-gypsies-dumped-rubbish-woodland-clearing.html

If you don't use a certified person to dispose of your rubbish then it's you that the council (can) come after. Twice in recent years we've had to pay a house clearance company. On both occasions they were at pains to show us their certification.

Its just not news is it. I can imagine the faux outrage from faux naive plastic people. Oh. Its the daily mail. Ok. And I think the bin liners will be full of -the stems and leaves of- cannabis plants, to be accurate.

I think I would need an explanation. When does an 'explanation' become a 'conspiracy theory'? I can only see the suggestion that the evil UK Government wants this sort of thing as yet another distraction to the thicko UK populace whilst they have their mitts in the till raiding everyone's pension funds.
Generally people want 'fairness' and it does seem unfair that a 'protected species' can go round turning the country into a smelly dump of rotting garbage whilst others get a painful whack on the hands if they so much as drop a sweet wrapper. I probably sound like Mary Whitehouse but I am taken aback by how much rubbish has been thrown into the hedges all round England - Washer Lane between Sowerby Bridge and Halifax for example: I've just looked at this on Google Street View and indeed some items of rubbish can be seen! Low wall and a bank of woodland between lane and main road down below - cars drive by and over it goes? (there's a lot more there than shows on the Street View). I'm sure canal/inland waterway boaters come across rubbish discarded in an improper fashion every day.
So I see nothing wrong in impeding the flight of so-called 'Travellers' and making them clear up their mess (and pay for it). That's one step in a campaign that needs to be started to get the country properly tidied up. Now that I think of it, have any of these politicians who want to be elected in this upcoming election promised to do anything about clearing up rubbish?

The government simply passes the buck to local councils. In effect they are saying "tough shit, it's your own fault" to the population at large. They do this on many subjects, always forgetting to mention that they've trousered the budget and spent it on something useless that nobody voted for.
