Just read that the first person to complete did it in 24 hours.
The first lady to complete did it in 27 hours, and finished third.
Apparently 66 of the 107 entrants completed the challenge within the alloted 45 hours.
An incredible feat, whatever the motivation.

I did all these things when I was young and in the ARMY I didnt enjoy it then and dont think the passage of time will have helped at all!!!!!! I remember doing the Hadrians hike which is deffo a real challenge, and the scenery was stunning but no fun when you run it from end to end hard work to say the least. Nowdays Patty's challenge is the way to go as I hit the big 60 next year I will plan it to be in the sun on an all inclusive holiday I suspect

The 145 mile run from Gas Street, Birmingham to Little Venice, London, has been taking place this weekend. Any of you on the GU will have spotted the competitors, bearing numbers, running, walking or shuffling their way south. Now Jane and I enjoy jogging, so that we can indulge in the occasional pie and pint, or two, whilst keeping control of the waistline. But 145 miles seems torture. And it costs upto £90 each to take part. Am I missing something? Rog i think what you have to remember is that it is The Cyclist and Runners Trust. It sounds like an official organized event. What I've witnessed up here is the local running club organising a race using the towpath without getting consent from Crt. Then the runners causing havoc with the other towpath users, getting very irate with people they consider are getting in there way.

If a right of way then no consent is required - not sure about if it isn't. No excuse for causing havoc and irate though.

And from what I found out when I complained questioned CaRT about a "Skyride" on London towpaths I bet there has been no formal risk assessment for such events done. Again CaRT seem to dodge the rules everyone else are supposed to abide by.

Maybe all the cyclists should be wearing PFDs due to proximity to water.

Another issue I've come across is one of these boot camp exercise classes using the towpath regularly. It does raise the question of if they have permission to run a commercial enterprise on the towpath. The particular group I'm thinking of is about thirty strong. They always cause havoc when they are out.

Even one cyclist can be very dangerous if they are not behaving considerately. I think if they were obliged to wear PFDs when on the towpaths a lot of them would bugger off which would be a Good Thing.

I've never been to Holland as I hate foreign travel but do they cycle on the towpath in the same way as here? I mean 4 or 5ft wide shared paths?
Not sure but I think the whole scale of the dutch system is larger and they may have a more organised cycle path network.
what has happened in Englandland is that cyclists have "adopted" towpaths without them being given cycle path status. This obviously causes problems for other towpath users.
