They seem to do alright in Amsterdam. you obviously don't spend much time on the towpath. Disagree (without trying to define 'much'). Come down to the GWC sometime and you might witness plenty of cyclists and consideration.

I didn't put my post up to have a pop at anyone, and I very much doubt the GU Challenge competitors caused anyone any problem.
I cannot say if C&RT were involved in anyway, but they certainly were not the organisers.
In truth, I don't care who uses the towpath, provided they use it considerately.
Many cyclists cause no problem at all, and the same for anglers, runners and walkers.
However some individuals create problems due to their total lack of regard for others.
Yesterday a young woman pushing a pram, busy chatting with a friend walking along side her, between them almost knocked Jane into the canal, rather than drop into single file to pass by. Nobody suggests a ban on prams.
It's the lack of consideration that's the problem, not the mode of transport.

Not meaning to be over dramatic, as nothing happened. She didn't fall in, but she was forced off the path and stumbled on the rough at the water's edge. The fear of me laughing at her saved her I think Rog

If by GWC you mean grand western canal, I know it very well. It's what 11 miles long and there is 1 trip boat on it ( I'm not sure if that still runs) and not near any big urban centre well unless you count tivvy. Oh and not even run by crt. I'd suggest it's not very representative of the rest of the network. Also you seem to have missed the point I was making about large groups of cyclists. But hey ho.

Have to confess we did the Shard on our week in London. Booked in advance it was £15 each, rather than the £25 full price.
As it was her 59th birthday I also booked the glass of champagne at a further £8 each.
But I have to say it was fantastic. We were up there about an hour and a half. Spectacular views on a sunny day.
I was amazed how they have built it on such a tiny footprint, with undisturbed old buildings all around.
Very expensive but we really enjoyed it (I gave her my champagne....wasted on me)
