so the police have thousands of potential terrorists on their files. what do you want to do with them? internment? yeah, like that worked in Northern Ireland didn't it? I was there. Internment was like a badge of honour.
what other options do the police have? electronic tags? accompanied full time by an armed policeman?
these are impressionable little scumbags sitting at their laptops messaging each other and bragging about what they plan to do. unfortunately it is the way of things these days - guerilla war spawned by the internet. better than a major war I suppose, for most of us, but not for the innocent victims.

Not like Martin to hold back, but there us always a first for everything. Sadly the attack last night just demonstrates the world we live un today and what is worse is that these mindless acts if violence are usually carried out in the name of religion ( of one sort or another ) Phil Here's a thought Phil, Why not just stay focussed on the subject matter instead of firing off stupid snide comments? Here is another thought Martin, why not say what you mean instead of trying to be all mysterious and cryptic. Phil

Has anyone thought about why it is happening?
Could it be the UK policy of interfering in matters which are none of our business, like Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan etc.
We interefere because we want things to be to our advantage and frequently leave a vacuum behind. Then we bomb countries and run away killing anyone who happens to be there. What would you be saying if some country took it into their mind to bomb the UK because ..... You would be wanting retaliation and would be happy with every person killed.
That is just what is happening in the UK today with every attack, they are retaliating for our bombing etc.

Also, as far as I recall the UK state has not bombed East London.

But if I hurt a member of your family I suspect you would want to hurt me in anyway you could.

I have no idea why people keep suggesting these terrorists are doing payback. Personally I think thats total bollocks. These are facists who just hate westerners and their values. I also note one of last nights murderers has left a wife and two kids, does this mean he died happy in the knowledge that westerners will now supply them with benefits and housing etc?

I think it's a way for some to come up with n excuse for their actions. Now if they were to have come over directly from a country which we have attacked and carried out that attack as some sort of revenge then I could rationalize that (just about) - but three guys from London? Really? we dont always agree but on this I too am struggle to even come close to understanding why they can us that as an reason.

I don't buy the "they hate our values" shit either. Most of the attackers haven't been particularly religious, most of them seem to have a history of womanising, drug taking and drinking. Not really the actions of someone that hates these things enough to kill over it.

IMO there's no point in seeking a rational explanation or justification. If you are irrational enough to believe in an old beardy guy sitting on a cloud, it is only a small step to believing that he wants you to kill lots of people in his name. As history has proven over the last few thousand years.

I was left with no doubt that some are fanatical about the western way of life, and yes, they were bloody bypocrites, being so anti western, yet happy to feed of it in many ways. I've worked beside people who were fanatical on how some of their work colleagues lived, yet they were happy to have a job with us, and a wage. The world is not nuts, it just has some nutcase freaks.

Work out a way of deferentially sorting them from someone who is harmless and someone who is going to murder people without causing more nutcase freaks and you are on the way to a Nobel Peace Prize.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned and I think it should be is full marks to the police for killing these guys whilst not accidentally shooting a member of the public. The scenes sound utterly chaotic and it is a testimony to their training that they managed to kill three attackers in a crowded urban location in very quick succession and ensure nobody else was caught up in the line of fire.
