I pigged out on the TV last night.
Caught up on Sidecar 2, TT Zero and the Senior - get well soon Hutchy!
Both episodes of The Unrideables - it was 90> that I was into it, I can well remember the shock at Rainey becoming paralysed π Reading MCN and wondering if Doohan or Schwantz had any bones they hadn't broken. Wondering why McKenzie couldn't quite get on the top step.
Hard men, hard bikes, great memories π

Hard men, hard bikes, great memories π 40 years since I last was at a TT but the memories are as clear as ever. I always try and watch it on the TV but I'll be honest, I haven't a clue who's who nowadays. I was brought up on Duke, Hailwood and Agostini. My heroes were some of the lower ranking riders that I was fortunate to meet and get to know. Ray Knight, Hugh Evans (who showed me just how crap a rider I was ..... he was an old style rider, neatly tucked in and as smooth as silk) and the crazy German, Helmut Dahne who was forced to retire one year with an oil leak when he ground a hole in a rocker cover on his BMW by what must have been suicidal cornering angles.

It's a special place no doubt. Following Hutchinson's accident and subsequent red flag James Hillier had a new shock and a new pair of paints after this moment at Balagarey

Definitely top class viewing..π I was club racing LC's from 89 to 91 inclusive and was involved in the club as well, and through these connections I used to get free V.I.P passes to the British bike GP every year, right up to 97. I loved the old 500 two strokes and the blokes that raced them, the bikes really could be evil with their relatively narrow power bands and sudden power delivery, only slightly mitigated by Hondas Big Bang firing order. Was a shame about Hutchie this year at the TT, but he lives to race another day. My thoughts and condolences go out to the families of the three racers who lost their lives this year, always a tragedy, but I applaud the organisers for continuing to run such a historic event every year and allowing riders to test themselves in this way.

Gerry Pell built my 250lc motor π And mine....ππ How's that for a small world ?! I snaffled his last pair of NOS pipes complete with unmolested baffles, on another LC I had some Muppet had chopped the baffle tube in half - common mod that reduced power but increased noise! I had mine off my mate after it holed a piston on some allspeeds, I had some cylinder work done at BDK Race engineering in Bergh Apton but it still wasn't right. Got pissed off, shot round to Gerry's place in Hackleton (30 mins away from my old house) and left him to it. Turned out the crank was out throwing the timing slightly. He worked his magic on the complete engine and box, skimmed head, double base gaskets, reworked selectors and gear clusters and so on. He was fairly complementary of BDKS work on the cylinders, we didn't go totally balls out on it as it's an original standard road bike. Sadly, it doesn't turn a wheel these days still, it doesn't eat and drink and is tucked up safe and sound cosy next to a VFR 400 NC24 for company

You have sent me on a voyage into the past. www.meadspeed.com/searchI had a bit of kit off Barry in the 90's again he wasn't far away at all in Newport Pagnel - that was for my road registered Spondon framed TZ that had an RD400DX motor in it - dunno who did the engine work on that but it was epic! That made way for an RD250C motor as I was too skint to rebuild the 400, which eventually ended up in an 250 LC that comprehensively shit itself - all of it seemed like a good idea as a teenager! I'm stunned that a pro am fairing and belly pan will set you back Β£225, I sold a mint set for peanuts about 15 years ago

Well I've succumbed to the adage 'The older you get, the faster you were' and gone and put my entry in for The Powys MWTRA enduro in August! Ive entered the 'super veteran' class π Being just over 50, with my pal competing in the over 40's Vet class so should be a good laugh avoiding the young speed demons in the championship classes.
The good thing is, this enduro is only 1 single lap π Unfortunately the lap is 150 miles longπ
Don't know WTF I'm thinking really as it's over 15 years since I last rode an enduro bike in anger , it's been supermoto for me since then but sure it'll adapt & try and survive. Been forced and goaded as a geriactric old man into it by my younger riding buddy, The things you do to pretend you're still youngπ
I'm gonna prep my bike this weekend and try and get a couple of hours in over the next month or so, although my 2 week trip in July to the Montgomery / Chirk on the boat ain't gonna help.
I'll chuck a few pics up as it goes, if anyone's interested.
What could possibly go wrong?ππ
