Cheers Peter, The "fund" is only a joke... unless there's a rich sugar daddy out there who'd like to try a ginger model I've done my sums a few times and we'll be ok. Once I've had my first operation next week, I'll begin making the proper narrowboatellis.com website - I registered the domain years ago and put a bit of holding blah blah online... it's time to give it a structure and layout a planned cruising itinerary for 2018 and hopefully get it showing up in hotel narrowboat searches. I bought Gav lunch today AND we had more than an hour... what they gonna do, Sack us? lol Well quaysider, you may be alright with your hotel narrowboat plans, it's not always easy having to live with perfect strangers on your boat for a week, if they're nice folks, it will be like holidaying with friends, but if they're not, you may feel like a well paid slave. Also having the right boat for the job doesn't automaticly mean that you'll get the clients, as you're not going to be the only one offering this sort of service. I used to own and operate a hotel-barge in France '79-'83, which was a very nice and comfortable barge for the clients, but this was of course long before internet became an easy means for cheap publicity and websites, publicity was (and still is) expensive, and as my funds were very limited (shortly after my divorce) I had no money for that, so only too few people knew about me and my barge, and I had to sell in '83 to a couple that were in a better position than I'd been, and they even got several clients through the publicity that I'd done a couple of years before on a USA publicity tour. Whatever you do, don't worry until you have to worry, as it will spoil your fun in life. All the best and success, Peter.

I say get it done, live the dream, it may become a nightmare but you lived the dream for a short time. More than many do in a life time.
You will regret not trying it out.

You are absolutely 100% right there faffer, and it's better to have regrets later for something you always wanted to do and that you've done, than for something you didn't do while you've always wanted to do it. Peter.

Sorry to hear about the crap turn of events, that really does suck. Seems loyalty counts for ferk all these days! I've worked for the same company for 30 years and it would seem to count for nowt, just got to tough it out for another 4 years then we're off to do the system. I hope you are able to treat it as a new chapter started early rather than too much of a negative experience, and I hope your operation goes well and your recovery is swift. Do check out the legal rights and wrongs of your case, it may make the bastards think twice about shitting on someone else.

Gpos luck with your future plans.
I'm not 100% up on employment law. But they are right it's the job that is not there anymore no one can carry on doing it.
My missus works for the local council and has been put at notice of redundancy a few times.
And that's the point I am not sure they can just say your redundant. They have to put you on notice that you are at risk of redundancy
They then have a consultation and see who gets made redundant.
Unless you are the only one working in your area of the business say you are the tea maker and they have brought a vending machine. Then no consultation required.
You will probaly have to appeal to your employer first.
I would see if you could take him for a nice unfair dismissal bonus. If not tell him to fuck himself and get on with your life.
I was an employee rep through two major takeovers involving many redunandcies but it was a few years ago and the memories are not quite there now.
It's worth a quick chat with someone and go over the facts.
I presume you have it in writing. Please don't take me as verbatim.
