Nick used to turn the helicopter rotor blades off in case someone got hurt. No, but we had to be really careful as we did rotors-running turnarounds offshore. I once had to virtually rugby tackle one of the ground crew who was just about to walk under the tail rotor, the bottom of which is about 5'6" above the deck, and he was taller than that. It wasn't so much his life that I was concerned about, but having to wash brain mousse off the helicopter would have been a bit yucky.

Who would that be? Apart from the guy taking the video of course. Personally I would throw life rings and ropes into the water. I might take the boat into the vicinity but I would avoid doing it quickly since no-one was actually in serious difficulties. I would avoid getting the 20 tonne boat broadside on to survivors, keep the stern well away, and I would avoid reversing at high speed and then having to use forward with lots revs thus pushing other boats who are already in position to help, out of position. There can be a desire to "do something" in such circumstances - sometimes purely for personal glory - but the helpful person will do that in a measured and considered way, not a reckless way. I didn't see anything reckless in that video, although I would admit that narrowboats are not the ideal rescue vessel and it's certainly not a great idea to have your prop spinning near people in the water. It's more the assumption that they were reckless which annoyed me really Nick. You always seem to think you know better than everyone else. Seeing as we can all be like that at times I'll let you off and say sorry. What was reckless, as I mentioned earlier, was charging in at high speed (for a narrowboat) then obviously requiring a lot of revs in reverse to stop once in the vicinity of swimmers. Then having dropped some folk off reversing back in again at high speed, lots of forwards to stop right next to the other boat and swimmers. The other boats involved were far more cautious and measured and I didn't have a problem with what they did. If I seem to know better than others then perhaps it's because I'm right, as I am in this case. They (as in the first boat) WERE reckless.

Nickolarse always thinks he knows better than anyone else. He thinks it's because he is superior to the rest of us. No. In your case it's because I am. Anyway, if you think the first boat acted sensibly then if ever I fall in near you, please do absolutely nothing.

This all reminds me of the notices by the Thames "The anchor is your lifeline"
I would like to state that if I fall in I would prefer someone does not throw an anchor to me.

Its all a bit old it happened in 2013! Not even new I don't think that I wrote anywhere that this was news "hot from the press".
That it happened in 2013 doesn't change anything in the whole happening, I thought that it was interesting enough to see.
As with everything else if you don't want to see it, just don't look at it.
Peter.

Although it's difficult (and I should practice as well as preach), the best answer to his stupidity is to ignore. Good point!

Yes, that's where I saw it, andî thought that it was interesting enough to post on here, as many members here don't go on CWDF and wouldn't have seen it. Is that a problem for you ? I'm only asking as it's not a problem for me. Peter.

Well I guess sometimes having a second airing no bad thing..I had not seen it before...what struck me was the initial laughter by the guy filming, Ive never understood why people find misfortune of others amusing..... Whats funny?..I dunno...there is nowt as odd as the warped sense of humour of some people....I don't find the video clips in these you've been framed programmes funny...I hate to see situations where others are hurt being made a joke of..
