Its not the only sinking of these vessels. One sank in the states with loss of life aparently due to the rubber boots on the drive shafts perishing and the lack of suitable spares.
Also they have very thin metal on the bows and one was punctured by flotsam on the thames, they then welded scaffold poles to the front as extra protection.
If your ever tempted to go on one of these drive cruises, dont bother, they are a death trap. The loss of life in the US was caused by the passengers getting trapped under the canopy when the vehicle sank like a stone and the bilge pumps couldnt cope with the ingress. Life jackets remained strapped in their harnesses. Those who were wearing life jackets couldnt escape from under the canopy once the vehicle sank. They have very little freeboard and most of them shouldve been left on Omaha Beach back in 1944
