I'm a liveaboard with a home mooring who spends about six months a year on my mooring and working, about two months a year on my mooring and not working, and about four months a year cruising. Having said that, I don't consider myself to be "better" than anyone else who owns a boat, and I do not "hate" any other type of boater, regardless of what use they make of their craft. Except gingers of course.

We all love boating. That's it. Rog Indeed! Along with :- Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

You're a literary genius young Gazza. Your daughter will grow up loving books......what a gift. I am currently quite envious of johnv who is on the briny with his boat. Now anyone who knows me, knows I love canals. But I could really fancy being a stow away at present, diesel issues or not. Just call me "ol' barbeque". Rog PS That's another literary reference to a truly wonderful book

ahem - *IGNORES SOME OF THE Pervious comments*....
WE're now live-aboard boaters with a home mooring - and although some of our longer term neihbours are Cmers or ccers AND dumpers, it doesn't matter a jot that - ginner bender or otherwise, everyone rubs along nicely... I've never had so many offers of help or loaned out so many tools in such a short space of time so easily.
I can't - ney, dont WANT to imagine a time when I didn't say hello to everyone passing the boat, or likewise, didn't STOP on route back from the bins to pass the time of day with a "stranger"... who ivariably ends up inviting me on board to show me something on their boat they're proud of.... I mean, what other community would invite a total stranger into their bedroom to look at their wiring?

The murdered MP Jo Cox was right and we should all endeavour to remember, that there is always far more that unites us, than seperates us.

We are 'slow continuous cruisers' going round the whole network, parking up in various marinas when we can't use the boat. Liveaboards when using the boat. This style of holidaying works out as being more expensive than renting a car and bed-&-breakfasting, when you sit at the table with a calculator and look at it over a period of, say, 5 years. I suppose your situation makes it difficult to be a dumper as you are away for longer than 14 days. Maybe you can find someone to move the boat around for you. Not that I condone that idea of course.... Yep, we have thought about that, to lend it to friends/relatives, but nothing so far (apart from a nice Thunderboater borrowing it for 2 days last August).

What category am I? Got a home mooring, but boat hasn't been back to it for seven months, but going out and back on a 15 mile journey, stopping and moving within the "guidelines" but still getting nagmail from CaRT. Staying on a few nights a month.
Quaysider, I do hope "Pervious" was an intentional spilling mistook. Respek!if it was.

I'm a proper boater. So its ok. Did you have a good at Henley? Yes it was pretty good at the twat regatta. I like it as lots of different boats about and the river channel is narrow due to the booms. I managed to impress/annoy the "well heeled" in their expensive varnished boats and college blazers by cruising up and down past the racing all day on Saturday with my daughters in my scruffy dinghy and my ebay striped blazer Did 15 hours yesterday Henley-Teddington in the launch - that was a good run Hoping to get back out there for the trad boat rally in a couple of weeks.

What about boat owners who spend their day hiding under the duvet? Do they have a name?
