Funnily enough, I used to take a girlfriend away with me to Italy in the truck 30 years ago, the mozzies used to leave me looking like a pin cushion at night, yet they never once bit her. She was vegetarian, that's the only thing I can imagine made a difference. maybe they don't like inflatable plastic Nice try, but...

Well i rarely get bittern...yet my mum used to be eaten alive by any midge/flea etc ..she was on host of different meds. Ex used to get bit by mosquitoes..he had hay fever so maybe there is summit in this allergic reaction theory...
I don't eat much meat but not veggie either...

That is why some people like me can end up looking like a victim of small pox (If I don't apply protective lotions/sprays) and my wife doesn't appear to be bitten at all. The fact is she gets bitten but doesn't notice because she doesn't react. She does have other allergies though.

Er, well it is piss-taking but that does tend to be what we do here.

Have not experienced this before but this Summer lots of horseflies (?) trying to bite us. They are awfully slow and easy to whack, they just fall to the deck and I step on 'em. I would be happy to leave them be if they did not attack me. Death to all who annoy the Fox!

We had some horseflies at Henley last week. Shocking bad form. I instructed my daughters to inform me if they saw a large fly so I could trap it with my forks. Luckily Horse flies are quite slow so easy to kill - you don't have to move at lightning speed to deal with them.

Thanks for all the replies folks, I'll pick up some antihistamines along with the citronella candles and see if that helps. Just to clarify...are you guys all saying that you've not noticed a massive increase in the little bitting bastards this year? If this is the case than it must be something to do with the meds or I've suddenly picked up an alergy Since getting out of the hospital we've been down to Marsworth and are now on a slow journey up to Stoke Bruerne, but it doesn't seem to matter where we are or where we moor the little blighters are everywhere!

Probably a mixture of no rain and still water has increased their numbers. Locks seem to be the worst places for them though. You sure they ain't cwdf drones?

Mind you, those midge drones which Jenlyn speaks of definitely come from Scotland.
