Big effort on the house last two days, plumbing to do away with the largely redundant cold water tank in the loft that drove everyone nuts when the loo was flushed - a combi boiler was fitted 12 years ago but the lazy arse plumber only teed the cold feed into the new boiler rather than doing away with the old immersion heater rising main and associated pipe work. Simple task of draining the tank and joining the inlet to the ball cock to the outlet to bathroom taps/toilet.
It had yielded a couple more jobs though - I need to install a mini expansion vessel/ shock arrestor to deal with the water hammer created by opening a cold tap, the boiler briefly fires as it detects movement in the water system - even tho it’s in the cold side of things, matters are made worse by the phenomenal water pressure we have here- again; many lazy arse plumbers ignore the need to fit this, after all £25 extra on the job must be the difference between profit and loss 🧐🤬
I’ve also got to fit new bathroom taps as the old Ideal ceramic taps are not up to the job of holding 6 bar back, consequently the basin cold tap has a steady drip now it has the full force of the water main behind it rather than the 5 odd meters of head and 0.5 bar. Oh well, I knew what I was getting into going from a recent new build to an established 50 year + property 🧐
A bit of minor tidying of some electrical accessories, replacing cheap nasty big shed switches and sockets for some decent MK/Ashley gear that I had laying about from work/two houses ago.
Following that was a load of prep work for the kitchen fitters prior to arriving today, new baseline units, work tops oven and hob.
I was the lackey for the day, something I didn’t mind as it was a joy to watch a pair of skilled hands at a different trade (one which I don’t enjoy all that much!) massive transformation and well pleased with the result.
one snag is I’ve now have half a kitchen sat at the top of the garden to burn/take to the tip as appropriate - still; you can’t make omelette without cracking an egg 👍🍻🤪
pics to follow....

When we moved here the water pressure was 10bar! It still is at the inlet but I fitted a pressure reduction valve and set the output to 2bar so its much more civilised. www.screwfix.com/p/prv-with-gauge-x/41943We will be losing our loft tank when the solar water heating is fitted in a month or so.

I’ve got one of these on the shelf www.screwfix.com/p/reliance-valves-predator-pressure-reducing-valve-15mm-x-15mm/914hr Once Mrs Gazza has decided which style she would like I am going to go for Britstan or Hansgrohe taps as they are rated at 6 and 10 bar respectively. The boiler is rated at 10 bar along with Dishwasher and Washing machine. I’ve also a new Triton mixer shower to go in which is also rated at 10 bar static, 5 bar dynamic. Idea is to keep the pressure high for the time being and see how we go with the new shower, if it’s a handful I’ll fit the reducer and reign it in a wee bit 👍

@loddon
pressure reducing valve now fitted. It wasn’t so much power shower as standing under a pressure washer!
Having a bit of a mare fitting the new shower - pictures later to show the horrific mess the last idiot that attacked it left.
I’ve got to get a 78mm carbide holesaw and do something funk with a stainless cover plate - pair of stop ends on at the moment, baths it is!

I was quite annoyed, I’d only had it 20 years 🙈🤪🍻👍

Yet more bike bodging This turned out quite nicely - a late 80’s early 90’s mid range Raleigh Rides well, but as ever the new Cantilever brakes are shocking compared to even the cheapest Vee brakes found on the bottom of the barrel Chinese crap available these days. This was rescued off the scrap pile at the Boat Club, the dwarf liked the colour so it was up to me to put it right for her. I don’t want to think how much money went into it but it is a nice little bike she will grow into for next year. Speaking of which this was the bargain of the century, spot on price on eBay in the next village - hardly been used and will see her right as she grows. It’s had an upgrade with the groupset along with a decent set of Schwalabe Land Cruisers - these are my go to tyres for all our bikes with bigger than 20” wheels. Last and certainly least Is this A supermarket special that needed going over - the brief was to build it as well as it could be without spending a penny - a tall task! The now accurately set up disc brakes are no better than the old Raleigh cantilever brakes! The ‘suspension’ has zero damping and actually makes for a worse ride due to the huge amount of flex and play in the frame affecting the shifting of the chainwheel - not helped by the crap SRAM Twist grip shifters and even worse Falcon Derailleurs and crankset. It wants many pounds spending on it to replace the crap shit with good stuff - ain’t going to happen so it is now as good as it can be. Me? I’d take the old Raleigh any day 👍👌

Fit some mudguards, you know it makes sense! Bugger the mudguards - they went in the bin off the 700c Claude Butler to make way for a decent set of tyres - fair weather cyclists here 🙈👍

I've always observed people on bikes and have come to the conclusion that blokes without mudguards have wives who do the washing whereas blokes who have mudguards do their own washing.
It's easy to overlook the amount of dirt sprayed up your back if you are not going to be dealing with the washing.
I always had mudguards but have not had any bicycles for about ten years as cyclists are the porn of the devil.

The secret is to only go cycling when it is dry 😜
