The easy bit! All that is left now is to seal the wall with two coats of Zinsser Guardz, then apply two coats of Zinsser Bullseye 123 followed by two coats of emulsion. Before all that the woodwork will get a coat of the bullseye 123 followed by two coats of Dulux Satinwood - I find it easier to do the woodwork prior to the walls, easier to wipe a little emulsion off the woodwork than the satinwood off the wall. once the paint has been splashed about the carpet fitter can come and do his stuff 👍 Painting doors like those is a job I will shortly be starting, are you using a brush or a roller gazza? Neither - I’m using a tame chippy friend of mine to replace them with some oak veneer doors 👍 All I’ve got to do is the rest of the woodwork. That said, the best way to paint a door is take it off its hinges, put it on some trestles and do it one side at a time - longer but the finish will be superior - I like the dulux trade satinwood I’m using, goes on well with a brush, lays off nicely with no brush marks when using a half decent Harris brush.

The preparation takes the time.. u r all ready to go now. I need to do something about the doors here, they were all hung without sufficient screws and they don't shut properly . I did put more screws in and one sorta shuts but the other 2 don't. Real botch it renovation but I don't unpick the onion layers... never again will I delve to what lies beneath

Our bedroom door has been hung on the opposite side to what it should be, the light switch is behind the door when you open it 🤦♂️ To be fair that was a mistake when the house was built, the door should have been hung that way and the light switch on the other side of the frame but that ship has sailed! Luckily the prat that did it hasn’t gone too mental with the chisel! Kitchen door wasn’t quite so lucky The damage to the frame is repairable with some strip wood glue and a lick of filler. All the doors have at some point been replaced 4 out of the 6 are wickes 6 panel eggbox specials fitted by a cretin, not one is hung correctly and all swing half shut. Hence the reason for them eventually being scrapped and some decent doors being fitted by a chippy - 7 to do in total, too much work for me so I’ll gladly put my hand in my pocket for that!

Consensus amongst the decorating bores is Satinwood or Eggshell, Full gloss finish is a bit out of fashion so it would seem! That said the Dulux stuff I’m using is still oil based. Water based stuff seems to fall into two camps, those that like it (no smell etc) and those that hate it (doesn’t work as well as traditional oil based paints etc) The Zinsser and Dulux combo is working well for me so I’ll stick with that!

Looking good. I'm very glad we paid someone to do that work before we moved in here, if it had been left to me to do it it still wouldn't be finished nearly three years later😱

With light switches in the wrong place there is something like that on Sabina.
Somehow the prat electrician that did it has two thirds of the multi way saloon light switching in the corridor instead of in the room.
The excuse was that he broke his holesaw on the 10mm steel bulkhead when trying to get the conduit through and just fed a single three core flex through the slightly enlarged pilot hole as a temporary measure. The prat wood butcher then promptly forgot that it was temporary and panelled the whole are with 12mm ply/hardibacker/ceramic tiles etc etc. all neatly and permanently glued and screwed. The prat owner now frequently forgets and when creeping to the fridge at night switches on the main lights instead of the gentle wall lights causing great holding of hand over the eyes and much swearing of fearful oaths

Nothing quite like nice calm lights coming on automatically if you need to be wandering about in the dark. PIR especially good for the heads. And they just switch themselves off. No contact needed. Wire it through a dawn dusk switch and it's dealt with.

I think we have one more move to do after the Dwarf has flown the nest, buggered if I’ll be doing the hard work by that time!

ETA. The water based stuff just doesn't seem to flow as well as oil based.

You’ll have to get your nails done more often 🤪🍻 You can usually tell a lady owned car by the amount of scratches under the door handle!

Decorator made a welcome (by Mrs Gazza at least ) return today, two coats of Zinsser Guardz to stabilise the surface ready for two coats of Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 then a further two coats of Dulux finest emotion on top.
Woodwork next 😞

A boaty update. I never got round to fitting a replacement calorifier to vanguard for dad. My brother is now the boats custodian and would like to have a non leaky cauliflower, something dad put up with for ages without complaint. A cauliflower was declared scrap by a fellow boater at the club. A quick squeeze and it turned out to be nothing more than a knackered PRV and immersion heater gasket. Bit of plumbing magic and it now has a TMV and a 1KW immersion in place of the 3KW one fitted originally. All that remains is to fit it 👍

Undoing "improvements" of earlier owners has been my main job on Shapfell. Although being totally ignored (on hardstanding) this year and possibly most of next she would only require a couple of hours work to get her ready to go, maybe 3 days to get her fully back smart again. Well eventually I have reached craning in time for Shapfell !!!
5 bloody years !!! I can't believe it ...... I mean I reeely can't beleeeeve it !!!
Over the last couple of months I have finished the engine mods, given the trusty little Vetus a full service with new impeller etc.
aligned the prop shaft, refitted the quadrant and adjusted the wires on the helm. (I chickened out of doing a full "Gazza" redesign and rebuild such as he did on an Ormelite steering system) I simply overhauled, and greased the seized original system.
Yesterday I put a gallon of diesel in the tank, stuck a hose in the water inlet, fitted a charged battery, pumped up the fuel with the little "tickler"
Bingo !!! not quite first crank but the engine fired up very quickly and ran nicely with water running through the exhaust system.
This morning I will phone the crane man
There is still loads of cleaning and tidying inside but I can do that while exploring the river
