Thought it would be useful to have a boating thread, what not to buy, under any circumstances. My offering:
DO NOT BUY A VETUS ENGINE, OR A BOAT WITH A VETUS ENGINE IN IT. However nice a boat might look, however much of a bargain it might seem to be, a Vetus engine makes it a MUST NOT BUY.
These engines are no better than others but when they break down, as mine has, they become unaffordable to fix. Even if you source the parts direct from Mitsubishi, parts are eye wateringly expensive. For example:
Head gasket: £77 Piston £100 (one, not a box of them, and doesn't include rings) Piston rings £80 (one set)
DO NOT BUY!

Seems a fair question.
Vetus don't do single cylinder engines so it must be a least a twin. It would seem unusual for a piston to require replacement (and rings) in a multi cylinder power unit.
Possibly the boat owner may wish to use the piston as a themed ash tray aboard his vessel but this appears to be engine repair works.
So what happened?

Japan I think, but I've always found it strange that two nations of stunted, slitty-eyed rice-eaters in neighbouring countries can manufacture goods to such highly varying quality. The only thing both countries seem to have in common is an ingenuity in inventing devices to torture and kill people.

If you want to, although I can't recall a single post I've made on Thunderboat in which I have mentioned Germany or Germans.

Out of interest ricco, how many hours has your engine done and how many years old?
