Would you like me to post pictures of the Germans doing similar whenever you mention Germans. Yes. They are still trying to take over Britain and the rest of Europe. Arriva and Grand Central train companies = German owned. The world should never forget what they did. The Swiss still have art treasures and the gold pulled from Jews' teeth in their bank vaults. They do not show remorse. The Netherlands, Austria, Sweden and Italy all helped Germany in WW2 - Finland had a slightly different attitude/position being in that they did not attack Germany but asked the Germans to enter Finland to help keep the Russians at bay. Germany is not a nation to be trusted. Take Volkswagen for example, caught red-handed. But on the other hand, this is a site about waterways and boating, there are other sites for discussing that sort of thing. Let's not go down the usual thoroughfare of saying individuals can be nice - yes, I've/we've met many pleasant Germans, Dutch, Austrians, Italians and Japanese. But as nations, they're not quite right in the head, are they? But then you look at British hooligans and think that lot should also be mowed down by machine gun. Surely it's down to the to the individuals who run a country though? Are you saying Hitler was not the biggest influence behind what the Germans did for example? Dictatorship by greedy selfish individuals is usually the main problem. People are easily led, and still are it would seem!

I don't see why the subject shouldn't be discussed on this site, I was just a bit frustrated that the off-topic stuff happened before the boaty stuff was given time to run. Whilst I enjoy the banter here, one of the main reasons I'm here is to learn about the waterways and boats.

I think many people lack patience. So what if 'off topic nonsense' came along early - it was all fun and interesting and as the dust settles we boats coming out of the mist... I wasted too many hours on Canalworld putting my views forward, and am too lazy (and busy) to run through them all again at the moment. All in all I think the views I've always had still make sense, and I now see other people around me are waking up and proving my views to be correct. People who are quick to label me as 'this or that' should look in the mirror.

Hitler had a vision and actually got off his arse to have a go at achieving it. Whether we agree with that vision or not, 'leaders' stand out from the sheeple who are just interested in having their tummies filled and fulfilling their bonking quota. I don't like Germans tooting in me in their fat Mercedes when I'm on the autobahn - they should be saying "Sorry" over and over again for ever. Germany is still full of arrogant arseholes. But I shall try to forget them today as I'm trying to come up with some amusing captions for my pics. First set to be posted this afternoon, I hope. Ultimately we are all responsible for how we act in this world, but the 'higher' you go up in the power pyramid, the more damage (and good) you can do. It's about whether they (we!) are only interested in the welfare of themselves or those around them. It's about whether they accept there is always something to learn, or that they think they know everything. As I've said before, it's a paradox really as you have to be a bit selfish to be a leader. Nice sensitive types are usually too shy. Anyway, I don't like stereotyping as there is good and bad in everyone. Even if it seems there is no good in someone there is usually potential if you can find a way to squeeze the puss out or remove the brain washing. We don't have to act like sheep when we are told to do something we know deep down is wrong. Actually I wonder sometimes whether we like to blame our own failings on stuff like this. I guess judgement is a boomerang again. Ouch! ...damn...

I have a good 1500 BMC plus gearbox for sale............................... Is it one of the old crank-snapping 3 bearing ones or a 5 bearing version? All 1500 diesels have a 3 bearing crank and as far as I know dont have problems with cranks snapping? It has a 2 to 1 gearbox on it and both work well, they are excess to requirements with the bathtub going to be electric. The injectors were reconditioned, new heater plugs, a canister conversion for the oil filter by myself, and the bearings and oil pump were done before I bought the bathtub. 3 seconds heat and it rattles into life perfik

Slitty-eyed Japanese burying Chinese prisoners of war alive... Slitty-eyed Chinese executing Japanese prisoner of war in strangulation cage... Would you like me to post pictures of the Germans doing similar whenever you mention Germans. Not sure but they look like contestants in one of those weird TV shows that the Nips are so fond of Phil

Thought it would be useful to have a boating thread, what not to buy, under any circumstances. My offering: DO NOT BUY A VETUS ENGINE, OR A BOAT WITH A VETUS ENGINE IN IT. However nice a boat might look, however much of a bargain it might seem to be, a Vetus engine makes it a MUST NOT BUY. These engines are no better than others but when they break down, as mine has, they become unaffordable to fix. Even if you source the parts direct from Mitsubishi, parts are eye wateringly expensive. For example: Head gasket: £77 Piston £100 (one, not a box of them, and doesn't include rings) Piston rings £80 (one set) DO NOT BUY! In 2008 for my Mitsubishi K4D (Thornycroft): Piston £48.91 x 4 Ring set £19.83 x 4 Head gasket £58.17 Big ends £7.82 x 4 All plus vat. Gawd only knows how much they would be today.

Out of interest ricco, how many hours has your engine done and how many years old? Rog It's all a bit of a mystery. The boat was built in 1998, it's believed to be the original engine. I'm told it was rebuilt at some stage (badly?) as the previous owner had let it run low on oil! Engine hours unknown but in the 4 years I've had it I've done maybe 1000, with regular servicing.
