Copied from a Facebook narrowboat group and posted in good faith. Narrowboat Dawn Treader, last seen in Stockton, Warwickshire on Monday morning, now missing, presumed stolen.

That boat was advertised for sale recently, last week or so, I looked at it on the interweb. Can't remember if it was on AD, or eBay.

Seems it was on Apollo duck as well, beginning of August.

Looking at the state of that gawd awful cratch, I can only presume the thief is blind or in posession of a big 'fuck off' hammer!!!

STOLEN NARROWBOAT: please circulate this widely, and especially bring to the attention of anyone who lives, works or spends time near any canal east of Bascote near Leamington Spa, and quite probably now east of Braunston.
To help me use my time and phone text message inbox space to move things forward, PLEASE ONLY CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION that can help resolve this. Otherwise, please do uphold me, pray or do anything else that you would like to, to help from afar. In the first instance, please CALL THE POLICE if you have any information about this. Incident number: 23S5/35125D/17
50ft, royal blue, steel narrowboat with red rails, cruiser deck, last seen for certain just below Bascote Bottom lock (lock 17, Grand Union north) at 5.30pm Monday 21st August. Please look out for the boat shown in the photos. Back deck currently covered with a heavy duty white tarpaulin. Cratch at the front has lots of paint missing - the photos don't really show that.
Distinguishing features: - dark blue panel towards the back on both sides - blank in readiness for painting the name on - solar panel on roof in frame that can pivot and that is attached to red rails that run across the roof - dodgy paintwork on the cratch at the front - cratch cover with a square window on each side - side hatch on the left hand side towards the front - registration plate is not screwed on to the outside - they were in the windows inside - 60714 - visible from both sides when I left it - the front navigation light isn't working
Area of likely search at this stage: - the Grand Union between Braunston and London - the Oxford canal towards Rugby, or south towards Oxford - Grand Union Leicester section
Please PASS ON to runners, dog walkers, cyclists and anyone else who goes along the canal, especially in remote areas, including any narrowboating/canal forums you are on on social media.
If you know a RUNNING CLUB that runs on canal please circulate this to them to put out to all their members.
If you live on or near the canal please LISTEN OUT for boat movements at suspicious times. The engine is a BMC 1.5 for anyone who knows boat engines!
If you are NEAR A SIDE ARM etc, please look out for a new arrival, perhaps covered with a large tarp to disguise its colour.
Most likely it is being moved at night and moored in the daytime somewhere quiet and remote.
Please call the police in the first instance if you have any information about the whereabouts of my boat.
Thank you so much for your eyes and ears and any help you can give in getting my boat back.

She sounds a bit weird to me. But not withstanding that, let's hope the boat is found.

It could help to say there is a child on board, after all, a lot of funds went into the search for Maddie.
Anyone remember that 'stolen/missing' boat last August 2016? What was that all about, then? What was the final outcome? New owners didn't want to pay for the shoddy work the boatyard had done, so the boatyard nicked it back and hid it under a tarpaulin or somesuch?
Is this a similar case? Why is it so difficult to find a big metal box in an overpopulated country filled with nosey-parkers?

Reported to the Police.
I saw this boat yesterday begining the Stockton flight, a man and woman on board.
Unfortunately I've only just seen this report.

Beginning to go down towards Leamington, or up towards Napton? And was that you or them? Details, details!

I suspect Finland is too far away to be of help, however,
they worked Bascote staircase in front of me and were utterly clueless. At one point having not filled the top chamber they were trying to use the boat to open the middle gates.
I worked them up (aiding and abetting) and later saw the boat moored at Long Itchington.
At about 3.30pm we were sat in the window of the Two Boats pub, and saw the same guy cruise up, into, and beyond the bottom Stockton lock.
Funny , cos I said to Jane after the staircase debacle, it wouldn't surprise me if the boat was nicked, cos the two of them had no idea.

once again thunderboat comes to the rescue. they can't have gone to far fro there if they are that useless.
as well as a good chance of finding the boat, they might get two arrests.
I know it's premature but that's a good sighting.

All that said, one does have to wonder why they chose that fairly distinctive boat to steal and had no idea about how to go through locks. Perhaps it is more along the lines of some dispute between seller and buyer?

More interestingly, the owner says the boat was stolen Monday. I first saw it yesterday about 300 yards from the site of the reported theft. My guess would be if it is stolen, it had just been taken yesterday when I saw it. Going off for my run now, up Stockton locks. I have my phone Rog

No trace on Stockton locks. Police updated. Anybody at Napton or Braunston? I'm heading up the locks and towards Braunston myself now, but I don't think it qualifies as a chase Rog
