In fairness to Telemachus, it was Ricco who raised the subject of marriage and indeed same sex marriage. I responded as I've been married for 380 years, and Telemachus responded because he has a same sex marriage. Our responses are equally valid and neither deserve to be described as 'rubbing our noses' in it. Rog PS oh I meant 38 years

Yes. The point is that a family can carry a recessive gene for a "bad thing". A recessive gene is normally suppressed, until it breeds with another (same) recessive gene and then the bad trait manifests itself. So this is highly likely to occur with incestuous breeding, much less likely to occur with random breeding. Blame it on the genes eh? Nature or nurture? Actually it's probably a bit of both. I think nurture (or influence from others as we grow up) is probably the biggest factor. I think there is a third factor too. Finding one's true self. That becomes more visible as we use our own heart and minds to override any programming from genes or other people. I agree with Jenlyn though, I mean, heterosexuals don't keep rubbing their sexuality into everyone's face... Umm, i don't think many autosomal recessive disorders are caused by "nurture"! Lots are caused by consanguineous sex!

I don't get any of it. I don't understand it, and being honest, I don't want to. If you want to be gay, get on with it, but shuttup banging on about how proud you are to be gay. I don't think people are threatened by it, that's just a ridiculous statement. A lot of people just don't like it, and they are entitled to feel like that. Get over it. bloody hell !! I find myself agreeing with you, in spades. I already feel guilty about not welcoming every disabled person into my house for a cuppa and a friendly chat, and am beginning to think maybe I should welcome all the LGBT brigade as well. You have restored my faith in yumanature - I too just don't like it when it is pushed in our faces (for example by soaps like Emmerdale which is completely OTT). I'm sure we've seen more love scenes between Robert and Aaron than we have about any hetero couple on that programme. Who decided that 2 men engaging in deep kissing at 7.15pm on ITV (when kids will be watching) is OK? As you imply, the meedyar seems to think it is good for us and will desensitise us to gay sex. Just because there are so many LGBT enthusiasts in the meedyar industry, that should not entitle them to push it in our faces at family viewing times. Or maybe they think that kids should be exposed to the full spectrum of sexual relationships at an early age so they can choose, a bit like Mummy letting them choose sweets from a sweet shop.

My comment was a generalisation. Nick subsequently decided to be offended. My opinion that "the gay culture seems to feel it has to effect everyone" is as valid as anyone else's view. I'm not bothered by gays, I'm simply not interested. If I really wanted to put up a decent argument about gays and marriage, it would be easily won, owing to the fact I believe in reproduction. As yet, I don't think this can be achieved by same sex relationships or marriage. I cannot enter into a civil partnership, because I am heterosexual. All seems a bit one sided to me. So much for the equality shite.

I don't watch tv.
Problem solved.
As for life, I have a gay nephew and neice and have never seen either kissing a partner, but would not be watching that closely if they did.
I have straight nephews and neices, and have never seen them kissing a partner either, but again why would I be watching.
I'm not really seeing a problem.
I hope all my nephews and neices find someone to love who loves them and makes them happy.

Rog My sister is gay, and likewise to your comments, does not openly make a fuss about it, just like I don't go around shouting I'm heterosexual. Your a very tolerant person in my view, but I'm not sure if you are just closing your eyes tight in the hope that nothing upsets you.

Can we please forget the Nick norman show and get back to the most shocking thing in this thread. The impending marriage of mrs tabby and ricco both of this parish. Now that you've gone and bought the bridesmaid's dress kris, it would be a shame if they cancelled the wedding.

So much for the equality shite. Marriage and reproduction are not related. Marriage is about declaring a lifelong commitment to someone else, tax liabilities and having a next of kin power when the spouse is, for example, seriously ill. Reproduction is about the selfish gene's desire to replicate despite the world already being infested with far too many of the species.
