I thought I'd have a go at refilling a 4.5kg cylinder after being donated a full 15kg cylinder Thank heavens for Irish online retailers 👍 As the butane is stored as a liquid the bulk cylinder needs inverting so it fills the receiver with liquid butane. Not super quick but it works a treat. The cylinder empty was 6.38kg, meaning a full cylinder should weigh 10.88kg 👍🍻 Nobody was killed or blewed up during this operation as I have a modicum of common sense 👍

I think you mean blowded up. Anyway, why are you using butane? Are you a summer-only boater?

If a kettle needs boiling on the move the 1000w sterling inverter can more than cope with the 650w kettle we have. Otherwise we are on shoreline at the club, cold enough outside not to need the fridge and the pub, Indian or chippy does just fine to provide for an evening meal. During the summer the fridge performs a little better on butane, and if I'm in the shit I have a spare propane reg and hose assembly on a 3/8" union so swapping to propane is not a hardship at all tbh.

Or is it to do with convenient clip on regulators or calorific value. The 4.5kg butane and 3.9kg propane both need a spanner, the 15kg butane is a clip on reg. We don't have space for bigger bottles so get rinsed for a refill - currently £17 for a 4.5kg butane. As we don't rely heavily on gas during the winter I've never worried that propane performs slightly better when it's effin cold

My boat had butane when I bought it and I can't really see any reason to change over. Butane burns hotter, and if it is cold enough for there to be gas pressure problems then by definition it is cold enough to have the stove alight and I cook on that. I tend to cook on the stove anyway if it is alight, even if the gas is flowing freely.
