Done properly it's a fine idea.
A blocked refuse chute is a right bastard though.

I reckon its a good idea, and cant see why some folk say that it encourages morons to throw more rubbish out the vehicle window and not into the new bins. Thing is it will reduce the rubbish but not a great deal, i see it near evry other day, just a while ago i was sat behind a couple of prats tha had just driven out of Mc D`s and threw out a large shake and chips with burger rubbish and then the bag it all came in. I was so tempted to get it and chuck it back at them as they were sat in front of me in traffic for a while. Then same day, a women was walkign along, so not in a car and emptying her friggin hand bag of rubbish along the pavement. So not just motorists. Not often i get shocked but she did. In the end all that can be done is to try and reduce it, it will never stop.

I don't understand how this can happen. It would be so easy to make an arch over the road before the bridge and hang a rodent from it in a position where it would hit the windscreen of an over height vehicle as it approached the bridge. Having the blood of a dead rat on the vehicle has got to be better than wiping out the whole top deck an injuring people.

Why they removed them is anyone's guess. www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/elys-low-railway-bridge-hit-13640716

Both of them normally drive vehicles that fit under.

Twp of my friends have hit that, one realised it was imminent and put his foot down -he was well wedged! Both of them normally drive vehicles that fit under. It seems it's the current favourite fenland pastime clouting it, god knows how many times it's been hit in the last 6 months alone. We had a Dane turn up at work with a well mangled 40' curtain side trailer that had lost an argument with a rail bridge, the mupppet thought he was going to loose off the curtain in our yard and get me to try to get a back something like straight. Thankfully I was told of his idiotic idea before he had started on it. His English was plenty good enough to understand get out my fucking yard!

It used to be the most hit bridge in the UK, not sure if it still holds the record. I believe a bypass is on the cards, but I don't live thete now.
