I noticed the roadside bins by the "Aires" (off road laybys where truckers traditionally shit and piss in the wooded areas) by the french motorways when I drove to Dijon and back to visit le outlaws a few weeks ago. They were quite big and looked like an oversize knights armoured helmet.
Misses took a photo but as she hates me today I daren't ask her for it.

Better be patient and ask her tomorrow Peter. That worked !! That's often the case, just wait for the right moment to ask, even if that means that you have to be patient, which I'm pretty sure you'll hate Peter.

I leave patience to doctors. Without patience they have no job. Patience would be wasted on me.

Fuck me that wasn't even close to going under! It was going to ERI, though. Turned off for the hospital at the first entrance, not the second one.

Driver has been charged with dangerous driving. Only 21 so maybe inexperience played a part. Can't help but to feel a bit of sympathy for him TBH, most people fuck up at work once in a while, and it's not as if bus driving pays so much that the risk of a fine and ban goes with the territory.

How did the driver make such a cock-up? Is the company he works for partly to blame for not teaching him that route properly? Or pointing out where the dangers lie, such as low bridges? Whenever I have to go into unknown waters I bear in mind that the bus is high and wide - eyes open for anything, such as low telephone cables, tree branches, obstacles that you may sweep away when turning (such as post boxes).

sometimes cock ups happen
When the old City Bus Company was taken over by Eastern National some bright spark in the Head Office decided they would buy some ex London Transport double deckers instead of buying some more new Bristol Lodekka ......without enquiring why Lodekkas were being used ...... really the name should have given them some idea !!!
The first one used on the Chelmsford run of course got stuck under the railway bridge just before Chelmsford Bus station !!! and the first one on the Southend on Sea run jammed under the railway bridge at Battlesbridge. !!! the conventional double decker was a foot taller !!!

there is a bridge near me. Greatbridge in Romsey that gets hit all the time. it some detour around it for a lorry.
thing is they have put a nice big bar across to stop the actual bridge getting hit. The only problem is that it's at an angle and most lorries that hit it end up either tipping up and getting wedged against the wall or tipping into someone's from garden.

In Black wall tunnel they have large lumps of metal hanging down. This seems a good approach. It will not cause wedging but almost certainly be noticed by a driver even if they are furrin. If you had progressively heavier bits of metal with sensors on them then if the driver continues to hit them you could then have some sort of flashing light thing and a barrier that drops down.
This should happen well before the bridge.
