(Moved from the news section) What can be done? The gubbinment in a publicity stint have suggested some tweaking of laws. My misses read about a cyclist crippling a child recently in a park and explained to me what she would do to this cyclist if it was one of our children. The sad thing is this would make an innocent person into a criminal (my misses for breaking the cyclists neck). There is no reason for cyclists to behave considerately. No deterrent to idiocy. I have kids. I don't let them walk on roads as there are vehicles. I like the cut. I do not live on the towpath. I appreciate the -theoretical- peace and quiet of towpaths. I know cyclists who do not use towpaths because bus lanes and cycle routes are OK for them (London), Something needs doing but nothing will happen. My attitude is to walk normally along the towpath and if some part goes dingdingdingdingdingdingdingding ignore them and let them pass when it is safe. I hate it when people leap out of the way. Why does a cyclist have a right to get somewhere quickly on a towpath? I like bicycles. I realise these people are saving the planet but I'd rather the planet goes to pot than have to deal with these subhumans. You get all sorts of idiots in life but these ones seem to be some sort of mutant human breed. I'm sure they are nice enough people in real life but please just fuck off if you can't be considerate !! Nice one. Unfortunately the only thing that will save the planet is a reduction in the global birth rate. Politicians don't like to talk about this, preferring to gain votes with policies that encourage people to have more kids. Whether you cycle or drive a gas guzzler makes no difference in the grander scheme of things, but I do understand that many people believe it does.

When a bikerist dings his/her bell at me, I continue on my way - letting them navigate around me... too many of them think that by using their bell, it gives them right of way...
it's the same on public footpaths (the clue is in the name FOOT) I let them dive into the nettles around me. feckers.
AS for reducing the birth rate - there was an excellent (if a little dark) tv drama called "Utopia" - they addressed it rather well.... in short, sterilizing the most of the population!

It was a great series really enjoyed it, its the same for me with cyclists just ignore them and Taff nearly always brings them off

I think if pedestrians enforced their priority by just not jumping out of the way it would make a huge difference. I don't mean aggressively blocking their way but just behaving as if they did not exist.
What I don't understand is this:
I am walking. I have an objective ie getting to somewhere. Why should I have to stop (increase my journey time) in order that someone who has chosen to use a bicycle is able to reduce their already significantly shorter journey time? It doesn't add up.
I know its a might is right thing but its not a road. Or is it? Shall we have some motorbikes ?
This is not a rant. I really like bikes they are a great transport system but they simply do not belong on towpaths. End of.

I personally have nothiong against bikes on the towpath, and when I'm in the UK, I'm often on my bicycle on the towpaths, I can honestly say that I've never bothered a pedestrian, the only people that didn't like me were the fisherman with their poles blocking the entire width of the towpath. It's not the bicycles that are the danger, it's the foolish people that are riding them on the towpath behaving as if they are participating in the Tour de France, and that are expecting to win a cup, a bunch of flowers and a kiss of a pretty girl when they arrive. Peter.

If you dare cycle past me on the towpath I'll force you to stop and make you have a cup of tea against your will.
When I've been on cycling on the towpath before all my bikes were stolen the only people I ever upset were high speed cyclists !

I have deleted my posts via 'activity' (and they no longer show there) but my posts are still showing on the other thread about dickhead cyclists. Confused.
Even the 'edit' is not working. I wipe it all off yet it is still there when I go back and click on the thread. Bizarre.

This is on an old android fone. It always seems to work ok. I've never used this forum with a computer so it may be different.

edit - saved this as noted all of my posts disappeared from that thread apart from the first one which stubbornly refuses to go. Perhaps magnetman should consider things twice before starting ranting threads with lots of swear words? It would make life easier.

Oh - and now all of my posts on that thread have come back and there is no delete option. Never mind, the thread will descend into the depths of oblivion. Some child in the 28th Century will discover it no doubt.

Like a metal detectorist excitedly finding a deeply buried coin only to discover that it was a pound dropped in a muddy field during a music festival!

I tried this on another proboards forum and frankly, you have no hope. People will keep adding posts saying they've deleted their others just to thwart you. No chance. It does work though. 👍
