Could you explain what you mean by this and why you think that? I'm not disagreeing, just interested. I mean it is the main populated by a certain type of person with a certain viewpoint and politics. Other types of person are not tolerated and their right to hold a different viewpoint not granted. Of course it doesn't stop a few misfits like me joining in, but it is not for the faint hearted! So broadly similar to CWDF then?

This comment relates to Telemachus's post. I disagree with a huge amount of the content you post on here (and CWDF) excluding your electrickery input of course. But notwithstanding, I thoroughly enjoy your input, and often wonder why people choose to get into an 'arse kicking contest' with you when clearly you will always win. Credit where it's due. For what it's worth, I enjoy the principle that I, and indeed everyone else can say EXACTLY what they think here. I choose to never resort to abuse, and am always happy for the jury of other posters to judge where commonsense and truth lives, but I have no issue with those that are happy to be more 'frank'. I have to say, that lately I have seen nothing on CWDF, that suggests that Thunderboat, as a forum, is in any way inferior. But of course, it is others opinions that interest me. Rog I'm glad to be of service in helping you enjoy TB! You are right of course, you are not one of the majority prone to insult, but it is of course the ones who are that one notices, not the ones like yourself who behave reasonably.

Is it coincidence that Telemachus seems to routinely come up with such beautiful and poetic descriptions of us as a collective? Rog It's not hard, I'm given so much inspiration!

I think it's a shame that behaviour on here limits membership to those pretty thick skinned and has resulted in the loss of a few valuable and very pleasant and sensible contributors. I'm thinking for example of haggis, for whom I have a soft spot. She's no shrinking violet in the flesh but found this warground too much to bear.

No. It remains very much a one-party state. It's impossible to have any sensible discussion because folk on here are unable to form a counter-argument, they only have enough brain cells to issue insults and swearing when they don't agree with a viewpoint. Only people with exactly the same thought processes get on. If I want sensible discussion, I go to CWDF. If I want to let off steam and have a bit of argy bargy spleen-venting I come here. And quite cathartic it can be too! You are priceless Nick...realy priceless. Your inability to form a counter argument doesn't really relate to where you post it, its just on here you get a more forthright opinion from all the lab rats..... I just finished off your last sentence for you MJG as you missed a bit

The odd time I've looked at CWDF after someone has posted a link her it has struck me that for the holier than thou bollocks it's no better, if not worse than here, the bullying, intimidation and pack mentality that goes on is pretty shit tbh.

So do the 'grown ups' feel that Thunderboat is becoming a serious boaty forum? Rog No. It remains very much a one-party state. And quite cathartic it can be too! I couldn't disagree more with your first paragraph Nick, you've got as good as you dish out here. Then again you were probably being tongue in cheek. I think this forum actually has a very diverse membership. I'd say a higher IQ than CWF. It's also more entertaining, which is probably due to the more interesting people coming over here. I've been a bit quiet for a while because I've been trying to cut down on my social media as an experiment. I'm trying out this thing called 'reality'.

As a member of both forums, I have to agree that there are some lovely people on CW too. But I struggle to dismiss the thought that very many of the lovely people on here, are only here because of the behaviour of some on Canal World. Many not actively involved with the 'banning' were actively involved in supporting the process. Rog

Rog the thing that stands out for me is when posters such as Nick or yourself go against the groupthink prevalent on CWDf - it really is noticeable how the pack all gang together to shout down any point you are trying to make that doesn't fit with their myopic view on the world. I didn't get the boot, I just lost interest in it over there. No sign of it returning either!

Not sure about it being a serious boating forum and don't really care. I'd describe it as a forum used by people interested in boats who also have interests outside of boating.
I like the forum because people can express 'forthright' views whether right or wrong without those views getting too much of a 'kicking'. Most of all I like the forum because when I spout rubbish I will be told I'm spouting rubbish but quickly forgiven for doing so.

I see this place as the real virtual pub, where dogs are welcome - and I like dogs
The virtual pub in the other place is more of a members club. At one stage it was more of a primary teachers staff room, but it has loosened up a bit with Athy as doorman.

Here we go again-primary teachers'staffroom. You'll have to tell me what one of those is like,as when I retired in 2014 after 35 years of teaching-I'd not been in mine for years due to being too busy marking in year 6.I do wonder why primary teachers get picked on,as loads of us are crackers, not boring & not at all bossy.(My husband might not agree with the last part of the comment😄).
