Correct term for vertical partitions in boats is "bulkhead". "Partition" is OK. Wall is not acceptable to be quite honest. Incorrect. Both of those terms apply to a structure in a boat which separates one part of the boat from another, not from the outside. Have another try. Cabin sides?

What the results show though is that most people went for the picture that had a bit of a 'story' to it rather than one which was perfectly composed/lit/technically perfect which I think is great personally. I can accept that as a valid point of view; I took a different one. I was torn between Chagall and Delta9, but for me, although I enjoyed the colour, composition, and ‘story’, I am just too sensitive to irritation with perceived ‘wonkiness’; the offset verticals in Chagall’s were off-putting, even though rectifying that would have cut off the duck positioning – but they were too near the frame anyway. The Delta9 picture, on the other hand, was immaculately framed as well as powerfully composed and deeply atmospheric, so I voted for that one. My other favourite was Patty’s, for its lovely, almost abstract effect. Judicious cropping would have enhanced it even further.

No, it's a wall. Look it up. A wall is a structure that defines an area, carries a load, or provides shelter or security. There are many kinds of walls en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall

How come there is no sixth place? Photo 6 and photo 11 were joint fifth, meaning I guess it eliminates 6th place the next one being 7th. Logically though you would think there would be a sixth, no idea why the software hasn't worked it out like that though.

It was you who mentioned sloping then vertical The sides of the cabin are the "cabin sides" the front and back vertical steel parts are "bulkheads" and internal cabin seperations are "partitions" A boat has no walls. It never will. End of discussion. I'm sure you know what the other part of the boat above your head which separates inside from outside is called. Deckhead.

With a lot of that I can agree, I thought your photo had an ethereal beauty to it with just those tiny flecks of colour from the lights and the boat, you could feel the cold, wonderful !!! D9's was superbly composed and was a real "art" photo. If Chagal's photo had not been there I would have been agonising between D9's and yours ........ I think it was the light and the colours and the "life" she captured and even it's idiosyncratic composition helped to make it a winner for me

I’d like a calendar too please. Patty lives near me so if she would be so kind as to collect two that would be great.

It was much more closely run this year than last, wasn't it? This year more of us knew how to post pics which perhaps helped the competition... and now I must learn how to do 'judicious cropping'....

Calendars & postage/delivery free of charge, just a bit of fun for me. There is a catch though - they'll be in Finnish! I can't see that as a serious problem, there's still 7 days to each week here and the numbers look the same On holiday next week, will return to this when we get back. Cor we can all learn a few words in another language...that'll impress kids to see it on the wall...or they'll think mothers lost the plot.... oh if my pic makes it in..can I be April?
