Erm really? Ladbrokes have a "cult following" as well.

Hahaha. We keep a couple in the cupboard over the winter months, but only if I can get them for a quid. Bloody things have shrunk as well. The filling is nothing like it was when they were popular in the 1970s. It did used to be filled with proper pie-sized chunks of meat in gravy, now they look like someone in the factory puts two tablespoons of diarrhoea in the tin before they put the pastry lid on. In fairness, since they seem to be a Poundland staple, and the tin must account for the bulk of the cost, I don't suppose you can expect much for the money.

One of my aunts was a follower of Bagwhan shree rajneesh in the 70s. completely bent her brain and loads of other well off westerners. And Bagwhan ended up with about 100 Rolls Royce cars. No joke.

I discovered recently discovered that Heinz tinned sponge puddings have been discontinued. Havenβt had one for years but nevertheless a little part of me died π₯π₯

My favourite was always Spotted Dick. Not tinned though, it was 'steamed' in the urn used to make tea at the local sailing club - no one buying the tea knew what was also 'brewing' in the water. A Sunday treat for me.

things change i guess, but not always for the better. All our favourite tinned pudding and pies couldntve been good for us but when you think about it, there wasnt the fat knacker problem there is today. Just rickets I do miss lots of yummy memories though, things like a pint mug of beef dripping sitting on my nans kitchen counter. There was always a knife sitting in it ready for action. Fried egg? scoop of dripping into the pan. Quick sandwich? slap on the dripping. Topped up every sunday. I also miss her big earthenware jug of custard, and beating my brother for the skin off the top.

SWMBO is Irish, it took her a while to understand that in England 'treacle' is actually spelt golden syrup. and turnips so beloved of the Irish and Scots are called swedes in England (and vice versa AFAIK).

I loved the brown jelly that sat in the bottom of the dripping jug. On toast - a bit like runny Marmite. And the skin off the custard - definitely the best bit.
