The winds getting up here already, it's predicting 20 odd mile an hour for the rest of the day and tmw.. There are loads of anglers huddled in their little bivvys. Are they mad? Is angling supposed to be fun?

I think it gets them away from the old woman for a brief respite from the moaning.

Me too, maybe they are the types who don't mess with stuff so don't have a shed they can get away with hiding in.

Also you can't underestimate the power of the "hunter gatherer" instinct.
It is still there even when they catch fish which nobody would ever eat. Its the thrill of the chase. Or something like that.
I have occasionally been known to do a spot of spinning for pike and perch and that can get quite exciting and ocasionally results in a tasty dinner but pulling out 4 inch long fish ?? I don't get it. I suppose if you get 20 and put them in a deep fat fryer then OK but they don't.
Or maybe they do?

I was thinking it's some kind of rights of passage ritual, so you might be right about the hunter gatherer instinct. There's lots of them here at least 20 little bivvys spread along the bank. Maybe it's abit like the SAS selection test, only the fittest will survive.

Will they blow away with the wind and end up in Oz?

Get your dive gear on and tug their lines, Maybe show a shark fin or 2. Give them something to tell the missus.
It's a sad past-time. IMO

I'm beginning to feel sorry for them, it's really blowing now.

I'm beginning to feel sorry for them, it's really blowing now. Well, I'm sure no-one is holding a gun against their heads and forcing them to stay there. Besides which, some are probably eastern Europeans and daren't go home until they've caught enough to make a bowl of zupa rybna.

The only waterways user I had hassle with this year were anglers.
One at Yarwell lock who managed to ignore about 20 no fishing signs blighting the lock and it's safety fence.
One on Mulicourt Aqueduct who lost his unattended gear to my prop.
And one miserable twat at Burnt House Farm he seemed to think it was his private fishery rather than an historic PRN.
All were sweary arseholes, and for once (a dwarfs presence helped) I reacted to them without swearing and politely pointiled out each ones shortcomings as an angler and a human bean ⚓🚢👍😀

I get what Gazza and Mr staby are saying but I just can't help feeling a bit of empathy towards any human being out in these conditions. They seem to be settling in for the night , so they must like it .
