I had the dreaded Speeding Ticket drop through the letter box two weeks ago,I left it to sit on the shelf for a bit, savour the implications before sending it back yesterday. It seems I am eligible for a speeding awareness course which I guess is better than the three points and all the Insurance problems that brings. I have had a clean license for thirty years, miraculous really when you think about the miles I cover in the course of a year. The offence ? 60mph in a temporary 50mph restriction on the M1,5.20am on a Sunday morning,no traffic, no workers in the roadworks, just me and an empty road.It seems that it costs too much to continually lift the Traffic Cones and relay them when work resumes,so instead this is what your faced with.the Traffic Officer I was talking to Yesterday shrugged his shoulders and said I would enjoy the course.what I have been surprised about is just how dimly people view speeding motorists nowadays thats been a real eye opener,no sympathy whatsoever

Well you have my sympathy, I picked up a ticket for doing 33mph about 30mtrs from the derestriction sign coming out of our village by a mobile tucked in the drive of the last empty house on the outskirts. Yes I was over but for heaven's sake 3mph!! and just about on the line, just an excuse to collect more money. I opted out of the driving course because A. it was cheaper and B. on my past driving record I'll be in my box before I get another ticket. The fact I got 3 points did not impact at all on my insurance As far as the mobile was concerned, in truth it would have been better deployed in the village itself. Phil

not pointing a finger at you ,you got caught in the government money trap ,,it's all a bit of a con really ,you got caught speeding so you get points on your license ,thats the penalty ! but pay money for a speed awareness course and don't get the points , that isn't justice at all ,just my opinion in general nothing against you ,so in theory as long as a course exist's in relation to a crime that's committed we can pay for the course and not do the time ,

I had a speeding ticket in my articulated lorry 7 or 8 years ago, 37mph in a 30 mph zone which had just been reduced from 40mph for no apparent reason.
The next time I passed, I stopped just after the speed camera to check out the scene in case there was some type of defence, and can you believe my bad luck, when I left I accidentally put the truck into reverse gear and knocked the camera clean out of the ground. Luckily it was in the middle of the night so nobody saw me.

If only the Police had lie-detector cameras and pointed them at politicians' mouths - they'd be raking it in!!!

I don't know why people don't sneak up on speed cameras and put black bin liners over them and some tape round the bottom to stop them from flying off. Burkas would do equally well in Luton and Bradford.

I have done 2 speed awareness courses one picked up because of my SRTV8 Chrysler 300C and the other because of my Shelby 500 Mustang they were both very very quick cars [the 300c was chipped as well over 180mph] at 30-40 mph their was no feeling of speed in either of these beasts

Use your cruise control in all but NSL, then go for it. Not all the money from speeding offences is wasted. This is funded by speeding fines. www.carkraft.info/A good initiative from Northants police. 21 years of riding and driving, clean slate, admit to driving like my hair's on fire when sage to do so

Sadly, Speeding is becoming as socially unacceptable as drink driving.

No its the 6.1 V8 lovely engine very smooth and in the tourer version debadged for fun just awesome! I fitted a chip and free breather system to it never found anything faster than it plus it was on LPG so it was clean and cheap to run a win win situation
