They do raise an awful lot of money using that bear...but I always wonder how much gets creamed off in administration/management fees and wages...I avoid all the hype that surrounds this fundraising..it always bothers me that despite the mega bucks raised the children charities still ask for more..is there never enough? i support the 2 charities my son raises money for and sometimes other local efforts. I don't like that bear...for me I'm a Paddington person...he's so polite

Lots of TV types putting on what amounts to a third rate talent show. I reckon most people donate money to make them stop. Don't deny they raise money for good causes but the non stop television coverage is paid Indulging. Thank goodness for Sky!

I cannot abide the annual nonsense.
Millionaires demanding we give money to charity.
And we have to buy a licence to finance the millionaires in begging for our money.
And how many of the millionaires are jetted around the world at our expence to encourage us to give more money.
Why do they have to spend so much to beg us to give more money?

What a bunch of cynical barstewards. Skylight Circus Arts, the charity I'm involved with does some exceedingly good work with CIN money, over many years, currently recieving 3 year funding to work locally in schools for children with special needs. In August I had the pleasure of leading a workshop for the CIN staff from Salford Quays in a reward/team building session at the end of a day of company development. They had a taste of what the kids have to suffer. So give generously. I have an arm stretcher and a pocket shortener for our friends in Yorkshire, to help break the ingrained habits of a lifetime!

Thank you for posting that...I'm gonna admit I am a tad cynical but its good to hear of those who do benefit from ordinary folks and not celebs.

I begrudge it but after a few gins, watching it later on, I always give in and give em something...
IN former life, (ahem circa 25 years ago yikes) I WAS actually pudsey at a bcc north do up in Newcastle... my (then) other half was mates with the lighting director of biker grove and we got to mess around - it seemed safer to put the ginner in the costume apparently.

Government dipstick to show how much the poor can give away and therefore afford to have reduced from benefits or pay extra in tax .

You miss the point. The criticism, certainly for my part, is that the BBC spends a fortune producing CIN, and uses wealthy celebs to beg the public to make donations, which we always do. Let us not forget that the fortune the BBC spends is ALSO provided by us. Rog

What Jim aims at is probably different (and honourable) to what flashes up in many peoples' minds which is Bono flicking his fingers trying to shame you into handing over your hard-earned wonga, when you know that it's all going to stop at a charity's head office where first they must buy expensive cars for the directors, and that anything that goes to Africa doesn't actually get given to the poor but ends up in the coffers of Mugabe's palace. I suppose charities will always fill in a void where it's not practical for the government to step in, certain little niches, but it is shaming that Brits rely on charity. Bono:- Every time I click my fingers an African child dies. Everyone:- Stop clicking your fucking fingers then.

The figures will be published, publicly available, where is our pet Googler when we need him? Do foxes hibernate? Given the millions raised the figures are fine by me "BBC Children in Need charity on the Charity Commission website. According to the latest accounts for the year to June 2015, spending was more than £62m but included £4.7m costs of generating funds, £2.5m grant-making and policy and £400,000 governance."

I didn’t say I wouldn’t contribute, just that I hate the TV night, I’d happily contribute NOT to watch it!

Me too, don't watch it, though I happily take their money. I have appeared on it a few times, in short films in how the dosh is spent. See what you missed!
