"A young psychotic man who booked himself a chocolate massage when he was sent to Champneys luxury spa by Kids Company cost the charity £55,000. Camila Batmanghelidjh, the organisation’s founder, tells The Sunday Times Magazine that she refuses to apologise for such lavish spending on disadvantaged children and young people. “Dave cost us about £55,000,” she says — though elsewhere the figure is put at £73,500 in one year. Batmanghelidjh remains unrepentant about such spending, which contributed to the charity’s collapse in 2015. “I don’t apologise for buying the kids nice things,” she says. “You can’t have a consumer society driven by brands and say that these children can’t have it. In the ghetto they rely on material goods for self-esteem.” Speaking ahead of the publication of her book, Kids: Child Protection in Britain: The Truth — which contains the £73,500 figure — Batmanghelidjh admits to making “lots of mistakes” as the driving force behind the charity, which became a symbol of David Cameron’s Big Society initiative."
'Permanently hungry'
Once you get yourself in with the 'Establishment' and the big noises of this country you can do and say what you like (and benefit in so many ways) and are treated like Saints. Batmanghelidjh, Savile and Geldorf are just three such people but there are plenty of others. I read a lengthy review of Batmanghelidjh's book and it was apparently totally unrepentant for the wasteful spending.............of other people's donations and Government financial support. Had her pet spending project not failed she would have been given some honour for sure for services to charity and the needy.
