It's the middle aged men in yellow lycra that piss me off the most. If someone can't afford a car and is using their only form of transport to get to work I have a little more understanding, but riding for pleasure, dressing like a bellend and doing so on busy A roads or narrow country roads really boils my piss. If you turn your left hand windscreen washer to the side you can 'accidentally' squirt them as you pass I do get annoyed if I'm up on the moors and city people, who if they dressed in country colours you wouldn't really notice, are head to foot bright coloured visual litter with (for some fuckin reason) a pair of ski poles. Honestly if you can't walk up a hill without falling over you should stay in your car. They do the bight clothing on the one in a million chance the weather might catch them out and they need rescuing I suppose, but could pack something suitable that would have the same effect? Fortunately these folk generally litter the countryside only at weekends so can be largely avoided. we call them the clackers. ................ and they tend to be in organised groups of 'super-agers', 7 days a week.............. when walking my dogs I pay no heed to them if they are overtaking me or coming in the opposite direction. ................... I used to stand aside to let them past, but never got so much as a thankyou or a nod of recognition 'cos they're all so immersed in their strange habit, now I have learnt to ignore them and let them move into single file to get by. ................... apparently they pay to be a member of such a group, like joining a gym. .... I do have a grudging respect for the obese ones trailing along at the back - at least they are out and about trying to lose weight, instead of slumping on the sofa with a bag of sweets and the tv remote.

I hate cyclists * who have really bright lights and shine them in the eyes of anybody coming towards them. Effectively blinding anybody infront of them, yes they can see where they are going but anybdy coming towards them can't see a thing. I blame really bright cheap led's oh and the self centeredness of our society generally.*full stop.

Unfortunately there seem to be more and more of this type using towpaths.

It is a sad state of affairs and slightly ironic that improvements to towpath access simply result in more wanker cyclists making it unpleasant. One approach for the bright light problem which I agree is very antisocial is to get yourself a powerful torch (one of those ones which says "this product may cause temporary blindness" as this is what the cyclist is using), when they approach just shine your torch directly at their face. You have as much right as they do to have a light I have very occasionally come across cyclists who have large lamps and small lamps and actually turn off the large one when they approach a pedestrian. OK it was once. And it was a boater on a bike on a very dark path with almost nobody about except me. Another thing is strobe lights. These can cause significant problems for some people but dickhead cyclists seem to think it's ok. Tossers I think it's all related to cars. These people are naturally just inconsidrate racy car drivers who have taken to bicycles for one reason or another. Put them on bikes the behaviour is exactly the same as when they are in their cars. Its a car driver mentality. Its actuslly very sad and shows some sort of societal problem as kris suggests in his OP Obviously it would be good if cycles had proper dedicated cycleways (preferably tunnels ) but while they don't they are basically a nuisance to more or less everyone else. Of course they are saving the planet for future generations so they are in the Right forever. Carte blanche to be a cunt. I don't think it is related to cars. How many car drivers do you see driving on the road one minute, then on the pavement the next? How many car drivers do you see driving around at night, with no form of illumination what-so-ever? How many car drivers do you see who think traffic lights don't apply to them? The list could go on and on. But, I'm sure you'll get my point.

I see loads in fact probably more cars push their luck at red lights than I do cyclists. I think there is a bit of a point when people get into their cars. They become a little stupid. They become aggressive, selfish, brainless. How many normal people do you see change when driving. They won't let people merge in turn, they would rather force an accident. Shoot through that Amber/red light just to block the junction so no one else can get through. We put traffic cones out to block entrances to a forecourt. You will not believe the amount of people who stop and move them or drive through the exit and then get shitty because we inform them we are closed and they can't have fuel. I lose count of the amount of times I follow a car at 40mph in an nsl hit that thirty and guess what, continue at 40mph. Brainless if you ask me. Then toot at you because you were brazen enough to overtake. People change when they get in cars. I would say it was the same when they get on a bike.

It's far more to do with inconsiderate actions by inconsiderate people. Intolerance of others also plays an important part, a simple sorry needs to be accepted more often, we can all make mistakes. I'll apologise if I startle someone if I ring a bell or ask politely if I can come through, however if anyone wants me to say ten hail marys just because I'm traveling a bit faster than them and startled them in the process then they need to be more tolerant not me. As for boaters wearing dayglo waterproof clothing and a captains hat I'll keep my thoughts to myself...

I just love how some cyclists that get into a confrontation with other road users (and when they are clearly at fault) suddenly start to think they are invincible and will try to front it out in some sort of mobile/racing stand off completely forgetting they have absolutely no protection around them what so ever (other than a helmet if they have activated the brain cell they are using that day).
In that sort of confrontation there is only one party that is going to come of worse if a collision occurs.... and it isn't the car driver

I think it is related to cars.
Cars are a relatively modern phenomenon which have changed peoples' expectation about getting somewhere quicker.
Cars have totally rearranged and enslaved society in the space of about 100 years.
The reason people don't drive on pavements and jump lights very much is because Bad Shit will happen (blue lights) if you do these things unless you are lucky or in a stolen car and good at running. There is a good reason for motor vehicle legislation because anything moving faster than a walking person is basically dangerous.
Nothing will happen to a cyclist because it's a totally unregulated transport system. You can be a complete cunt and get away with it.
I firmly believe that the root of the idiot cyclist problem on towpaths is a "car mentality" . in a bike v car collision the cyclist is usually worse off but in a bike v pedestrian collision the cyclist will be able to pick up the bike and fuck off if they so wish.
the psychology of a person changes according to the risk level and their desire to arrive at the destination at a fixed time or as fast as possible.
I assume everyone reading this also thinks the discussion is about inconsiderate cyclists on towpaths (excessively bright lights, high speed, dingdingdingdingdingding -SPLASH type of thing) not just people on bikes in general.

Speeding bikes have bells? Well I never! One of my sarky comments, "how much did you pay for that bike mate? And you didn't get a free bell!" Or "If you can't afford batteries for your bell, shout ding ding!" And to pavement peddlers "won't your mum let you ride on the road, now she's taken your stabilisers off?"

You may be surprised to hear that every bike comes with a bell. It's a legal requirement to sell a bike.

Those who cycle aggressively are just plain selfish..... those who drive aggressively are just plain selfish... Its a unfortunate part of life..there will always be people who lack compassion/common sense and drive/cycle like total and utter idiots... they won't change...

True.
If cyclists and motorists were both subject to registration and insurance I suspect there would be fewer reckless cyclists about.
I know there are laws to cover cyclists causing death and injury but the fact is a cyclist can just bugger off after an accident and unless someone films the event they will never be caught. Cars and motorcycles have registration numbers.
I'm not anti bike I think that with the right arrangements they can be a very Good Thing but if is totally unregulated and also encouraged via government policy then it is going to attract dickheads.
IMO
