Oh so cruel! Actually I quite like Dianne Abbot. She was good with Portillo on that post-QT programme (This week?). I wouldn’t really want her as Home Secretary but that has nothing to do with her appearance nor use of makeup.

It always seems unkind.
There are many truly ugly men, but women seem to get the stick.
Being funny doesn't really mask the cruelty does it.

Rog It's probably cruel and unkind to suggest that I have a propensity to murder prostitutes simply because I earn a living driving an articulated lorry but is my face bovvered?

But unlike Dianne you haven’t been the subject of a sustained and very public hate campaign including death threats etc. I am not the sort to jump on a long running bullyfest against an underdog. So yes it was funny, but equally it’s important to point out the hurt that thousands of people doing what you have done, can cause. Funny and nasty, rather than just funny.

Talking of make up. I had the unfortunate unpleasentness of watch a Christmas with Michael bauble.
Barbra Streisand had so much make up on she looked about 40.
Anyway stabby your a lorry driver so calling you a prostitute murderer is a factual comment.
😁😂🤣

How can someone in a position of enormous power over ordinary people, who directly and indirectly pulls in over a quarter of a million pounds a year from that position be described as an "underdog"? Nobody holds a gun against her head and forces her to hold public office and subject herself to public scrutiny and opinion, she would be at complete liberty to resign and become a Woolworths shop girl or a school dinner lady if she so desired.

My brother in law was pontificating about the dress sense and hair style of Theresa May the other day, and not in a kind way.
It struck me that we gentlemen are exceptionally fortunate to rarely be held to ridicule on such superficial and senseless grounds.
The joke hit the same sore spot, so I felt compelled to comment.
I know it was just a joke, and Abbot has worse to contend with but it was the general principle which seemed unkind.

Rog Well, I would say that compared to being one of the countless thousands of homeless people forced to sleep through the Winter in shop doorways and beneath canal bridges, or being one of the countless thousands of people who have only the food bank standing between themselves and starvation, being a multi-millionaire whose face is compared on the internet to a horse's arse isn't the most traumatic experience a person might have to endure.

As a one off, no. But as a sustained intensive thing such as she is victim to is very powerful and can lead to mental illness. Not very nice thing to deliberately inflict on a specific person. In any case, it is an important principle of democracy that someone who has been voted in by their constituents shouldn’t be hounded out of office by a sustained campaign of nasty bullying and threats, just because she is a woman, black and of average natural beauty.

But since there is no racial element to the photo in question, which simply showcases a woman's shortcomings in conforming to classical standards of beauty, why have you introduced the race card?

Because, if you read my post properly - or even briefly! - you will see that I was referring to the general sustained abuse she suffers, which includes racism. It’s not all about you! But you are jumping on a fairly unpleasant bandwagon with your small contribution, and that is why I’m calling it out. Identifying someone under sustained attack and joining in with your tuppenceworth is like the playground weaklings who wait whilst the big boys beat someone up, then when they are incapacitated on the ground, swoop in to give their kicks before running back and hiding behind the bicycle sheds tittering and knickers wet with the thrill of it. Not big or clever! All that said, I’m not saying you shouldn’t have done it, but I am saying that it will be identified for what it is.

You do realise that ridiculing and lampooning politicians is neither a new thing nor restricted to Diane Abbott?
