Does anyone play the guitar? I used to have one years ago that I used to mess around on a bit, just a few chords really, but a few weeks ago I bought a second-hand Yamaha acoustic guitar off of ebay and I'm slowly improving although I suspect I've left it a bit late to become the next Hendrix. So who else plays, and more importantly would you be prepared to post a bit of video showing off your skills?

I've got one but as I've got steadily worse at it for the past 30 years there will be no video. I make tunes up and multi track on a laptop, but only for my own amusement, playing them to others would be the musical equivalent to showing them holiday photos.

I can play the flute pretty well. I got to grade 6 when I was about 15 but was encouraged too much so I stopped. Flute is a bit girly. I would have preferred the guitar its more of a man's instrument.
Never tried the guitar but I would expect to pick it up fairly easily.

I have a very nice acoustic which sits in its stand and which I polish occasionally.
Fully intended to when I retired in 2011, even bought 'guitar for dummies' book and CD.
Still haven't advanced beyond 'little brown jug'.
My fingers are just too fat and short to get the chords.

Easier still a nylon string 3/4 size - the strings further apart and the frets closer together - perfect for you and available for a fiver at any car boot sale. That's less than a set of strings. The tone of them is really nice too and the strings don't hurt your fingers. 👍

Takes a bit of learning, but is easier from scratch. Slide guitar - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Slide_g...

Learnt to play the ukulele on holiday..then brought a concert one a its slightly larger and easier to use but now it gathers dust..I meant to join a club but meant venturing out at night and I don't like night driving over the Common..shall have to look for another trip away that includes uke tuition....i really enjoyed having a go in a group of learners.

I play the piano a bit, had lessons and learnt to read music at school but never really practiced enough (always getting a row from music teacher!). But now, 50 years later, I’m glad I did. I enjoy downloading some sheet music from Musicnotes and bashing out some tune I’ve got in my head. Latest one is Keane’s “Somewhere only we go”. I like stuff with interesting chord progressions and harmonies. It gives me pleasure but probably sounds pretty awful to anyone else!
Suitable for home (house) use only, of course!

I decided to make the 'uke' a project a couple of years ago.
If you can knock a tune out of a guitar it's very easy to play, just a new set of chord shapes.
Flush with success I decided to try the banjo last year.
What a horrible noise I can make. I listen to skilled banjo players and wonder how I can make such a row with the same instrument.
Needless to say, the banjo will not be going back to the boat.

I learned piano too - although I studied to grade 6, I hated the exams and theory of it so gave it up as soon as I was "Allowed" to - at 16 - ergo when I tried to pick it up again 25 years later - I'm still rubbish but enjoy a tinkle every now and then.... SADLY when we moved on to the boat, no-one in the family would take back the piano (my nans) so I ended up giving it to the local scouts.
I'm sure they'll be better at playing it than me... but in the spirit of sharing, here have a laugh:

How do you graded pianists get on without music? I had a friend who was up the grades, we wanted him to play in a band with us but without music in front of him the best he could manage was chopsticks! I don't / can't read music myself and because of that^ I'm glad I never learnt. I realise there is much to learn from understanding scales and chord progressions, but if doing so leaves you less able to play from your imagination and shackled as my friend was I'm happy to remain uneducated. He could play technically beautiful music but we played rock and roll from the heart and got the girls.
