I plan to cut out alcohol for a month or so once I've worked my way through my current stock. I usually drink more than the recommended amounts, but not excessively. I have drunk an awful lot over the Christmas period though as I've had not much else to do and have been visiting friends that also like a drink. I don't consider myself to have a problem, but when I've given up in the past I've found it a bit hard. I like a drink in the evenings. I used to be a big fan of cocaine but never had any difficulty stopping that for extended periods. I don't know why coke has such a reputation for being super addictive. I've always thought it to be less so than baccy or drink.

I think the thing with cocaine is that it becomes more addictive when you start cooking it up. But Tobbacco is supposed to be the most addictive substance.

My resolution is to drink more, eat more and smoke a little less. Now what I drink/eat/smoke is my problem!

I've always thought it to be less so than baccy or drink. Drinking is a social thing, when I visit friends that like their (alcoholic) drink I don't mind them drinking at all, as they're in their place, and I just drink fruit-or vegetable juice or even water (if I want to live dangerously), I don't need alcohol to feel happy, and if I'm at a party where there's a good ambiance I'm having as much fun (if not more) than all the others, and don't suffer from a headache the next day. If the party isn't good, there's no need to stay, and I go away and let the others continue having fun, which is often nothing more than getting pissed together, great fun ! If you like to drink with friends that live at walking distance away, or if you can stay the night at their place it's all fine, but if you had to go by car, and have to drive back to your own place, then it's not good anymore, of course you know that you're still quite capable to drive, but the wide roads you used to get to the friends have become a lot narrower on the return journey, and sometimes trees start crossing the roads at the most unexpected moments, and it's their fault that people get involved in accidents, bloody narrowing roads and horrible trees, that's what they are Peter.

Drinking too much water is definitely dangerous. especially for boaters.
I usually drink alcohol by myself. Other than family meetings at pubs over the festive season the last time I had a beer with someone else (socially) was on Sabina H with JohnV a few months ago. He gave me a bottle of ale and a ham stew in the saloon.

My New Year's resolution is to be a nicer, kinder, gentler and more tolerant person, rather than the complete and total cunt I have been since 1959.

A bloke pretty well qualified to comment on the subject of addiction!

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered." It's the second one that has always made me think we must set our own priorities and not just follow. Unfortunately I seem to have squandered most of my money on mortgages & children but at least some now goes on a boat. As to birds & fast cars the wife wont let me.................
