I don't drink as much as i used to due to health problems..however this Christmas and New Year I have increased intake..too much time alone followed by night out with friends.. Post trip away to other friends intend trying to cut out wine during the week and just have odd glass at weekend...I have to make a few decisions this year..a friend has described me as anchorless...just dunno wots best anymore. One constant in your posts Patty is your horror house, garden and at least one neighbour. I don't recall reading anything positive about those in the past year. Cut your losses and make your escape for 2018? How about a nice narrowboat? No garden, changeable neighbours... I drank 1 bottle of wine over Christmas and a couple of whiskys. Just a cup of tea or two last night. It's nice to wake up without a hangover these days.

I've never been a great drinker, neither was my dad. A few pints and I get the "never agains". A close family member was brought up in a pub, and alcohol got a grip of him years back. He would drink himself into oblivion. Destroyed his marriage. I helped him get into rehab the first time, he learned how to dry himself out with meds from the doc, he's fallen off the wagon several times when family crises happen, but he's been dry a couple of years again now. I've seen people getting off opiates, not half as bad as alcohol, it's nasty when it gets a grip. He tried AA, but it wasn't for him, he said it's all "poor me poor me pour me another one".

I have always been of the opinion that if on waking in the morning, your first thought/need is a drink (alcoholic) then you have a problem.
There are, sadly many things to worry about in this world. A tipple or two of your choice in an evening isn't one of them in my view.
Jane woke to news that a friend's husband had died over night. He was in his eighties so whilst a shock, not too surprising.
It does help me to adjust my perspective and encourage an appreciation of how fortunate I am.
If you can change it....do so.
If you can't......no point worrying.

You are right Horror House has been living up to her name and its caused some concerns as to whether this place right..deep down I know it's not but its the whole packing up/selling/finding new place thats gonna suit me I find a bit overwhelming...its a solo task as family want me tucked away in the house....But I will wander and look and continue to ditch the clutter thats crept into the place..who knows when clutter gone the way will be clear.... One day I will know where to chuck that anchor whether it be a nomadic existence or static.... I'm optimistic about the way ahead......

You'd lose. My friend in Virginia said I couldn't do without alcohol so I gave it a go for 6 months to see if it would reduce my blood pressure. No effect on blood pressure, none at all. I drank 2% 'kids beer' for sauna, gave beer and whisky/vodka a miss for 6 months. I like to drink a little whilst cooking, and a wee dram when I get home from work, but I'm not dependent on alcohol so can easily not miss it out. I do, however, find those who don't drink alcohol on some kind of principle to be usually boring types, and the next thing they declare is that they are some kind of vegtarian-vegan-vegetable eggs-fish-milk or nothing-at-all or whatever-they-fancy, they make it up as they go along like the 'hippies' of Hebden Bridge with £450,000 houses. Loose the 6kg will have a marked effect on the blood pressure

2017 was mixed for me. Big problems with the boat, and with one of my houses. I've spent nearly a third of rents on various repairs. Didn't meet many girls last year, must be getting old. On the plus side I managed around 200 kayaking sessions of around 4 miles each. An inch off my waist, one on my chest and arms, haven't been in better shape for 20 years.
No specific plans for change this year. I'm off to Bali in 10 days for my annual 2 month surfing jaunt, and hope to keep up the kayaking, maybe up it a little more. Hopefully stay healthy although that's in the lap of the gods. Not piss too many people off and learn to let go of things more, when I can't control them.
I limit myself to drinking every 2 days. It could easily be every day, but I deny myself that.

Whisky for breakfast this morning. Best time when your mouth is clean, and you're on holiday, and waiting for the CRT chappies to turn up to open the lock. I'll give them another half hour before I go round with the axe. Going up through Tuel Deep? Best be nice to the lockies or they might open the taps full. And you have to come back. Howard is no longer there, he was Tuel Master, if he didn't like the cut of your jib you wouldn't get through! You might need their help anywhere up and down the Rochdale. Have fun.

It woz Bob wot dun the job this morning. No-one turned up yesterday so I phoned. We've mostly seen Billy & Ian there before. This is our 6th time up to HB from SB. Back tomorrow. Bob thought it was a bit odd, our 2-day trip, but I pointed out with no traffic they will close the canals. I mean... the M62 is open today, isn't it? And so should the canals be! I can see your point...isn't it very windy up there?.....this pm forecast down here is for a very blustery time....could make your trip fairly interesting...stay safe
