let's hope the CPS now proceeds with the outstanding 88 (?) rape allegations. I understand that in some US states the convict has to pay for his board and lodging ....... that would be so much better than the present system where the man can live at our cost, while his investments grow. they do but they also go to work in prison and earn money to pay for it. Or is it not like that. Do they work here or is there not enough time between gym, the tv room and the Xbox

I would like to see solitary confinement for all prisoners. They can have comfortable accommodation, such as that of Travelodge-style, but no intermingling with other prisoners so that they are subject to bad influences. No TV, no Internet, no phones, no alcohol/other drugs. They should be free to read and/or study, treated well, proper medical care, but always an eye on the fact that they are there to 1) be punished and 2) to keep them away from a society in which they will inflict harm. ..... I'm sure this would lead to well rehabilitated persons released onto our streets.

I think my proposal is a good start. You can never please everyone. Please point me in the direction of any evidence that solitary confinement reduces re-offending rates or even reduces crime.

Please point me in the direction of any evidence that solitary confinement reduces re-offending rates or even reduces crime. I didn't say it did. Did I? ..... No you didn't. My view is that the primary purpose of our justice system (apart from being Just) should be to reduce crime and especially re-offending, punishment comes into the equation as part of this. Your proposal doesn't deal with 'my' primary purpose so I think your proposal is crap!

that one's in poor taste foxy... I thought Foxy stated in another thread his resolution was to be more sensible in his posts....as I agree with what Mark has put I kinda think his resolution is now on a slippery slide to where ever...

The thought popped into my mind that some of the 'outraged' are a little distraught because they too want to be drugged and raped, only that taxi driver hadn't got round to them. Edited. Is that better? Well not really because I sure as hell cannot work out why 'anybody' would actually want to be drugged and raped. It's not even that funny TBH, as my old dad used to say when somebody said 'it was only a joke', he would respond with 'Yeah but jokes are meant to be funny'.

I don't think anyone in Wales really molests sheep. But everyone here is making jokes about it. And jokes are meant to be funny, right? They don't compare though do they. Jokes about sheep shagging are funny in a childish schoolboy sort of way but 'jokes' about other members perhaps wanting to be drugged and raped are just well..... a bit sick.

should be to reduce crime Which is why prisoners should not be allowed to mingle and give out tips on how to do it without getting caught next time (?). I suppose there are so many facets to prisoner welfare that it deserves a forum all of its own. Does www.thunderprisoner.net exist yet? Which quite nicely leads me around to asking if you have any evidence that your proposal helps to reduce crime.

My sister used to work in the prisons and she always maintained that short sharp shocks worked but when prisoners in for longer stretch you lost them to the system and re offend rate high....the regulars would do time ...go out...reoffend and return to do time...an ever perpetuating circle for which prison did nowt to break.

Is that because the crime is worth the time.
People will keep on committing crime such as theft and burglary as the chance of getting caught are low and when they are finally caught they can do a small stretch and then cone out and carry on.
They don't mind going to prison it's a small inconvenience

Some one has..cannot remember who but some one admitted to staying in one of her majesty's establishments......I'd hazard a guess but don't want to be accused of making false statements.....
