Have you heard about the Goole Intermodal Terminal ? Well there are plans afoot to develope the area currently known as the Dog & Duck. Land amounting to 29 acres is going to be turned into a rail head, wharfe, and a freight/cargo handling facility. There will be a seamless transfer of freight between ships, barges and trains, according to their press release. Dredging of the Aire & Calder Canal will be carried out to a depth of 5 metres in this area. Planning and Finance apparently is in place.
Land surveys are taking place at the moment, they have just been over here in Goole Boat House Marine. They've just done my garden mooring. At the beginning of February they are doing a full survey of the Canal between the Docks and Dog & Duck. There is a notice from C & RT warning of delays to craft navigating during the first week in February.
A chap from the other side of the canal has told me they have started clearing the ground ready for re-instating the old railway.
I have heard craft currently on the Dog & Duck are to be moved on. Who knows where ?
Interesting times.
Anyway, this is Joe, at Goole, for Thunderboat, signing off.

It would be good to see it come off and breath some much needed life into that area and the A&CN www.humberlep.org/project/goole-intermodal-terminal/Corresponding 'stoppage' notice canalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/12180/goole-intermodal-terminal

It's good to see our on site reporters are working hard to keep the news flowing on waterways issues....

I also think it's good if this happens and a traffic on the aire&calder starts again. Let's hope it goes further than a feaseabity study. Thanks to Cygnus for posting this.

Just remembered something that i read in regard to this Intermodal Terminal. Apparently it costs 8 quid a ton to move freight by road from Hull to Leeds, and 2 quid a ton by water.
They mention the Wakefield Europort, and the Leeds Inland Port at Stourton as destinations for the waterborne traffic. My feeling is the rail terminal will be the thing to take off.

It could be a good thing for the whole of that part of England if it takes off. But your right interconnection with the rail network is probably very important.

I thought Goole was under-developed (historically) because the dockers at Hull didn't want the Goolies taking their jobs and money? There will always be those against any development especially if they think their pockets will be affected..trouble is people may never work for the good of all

No one wants to be taken by the Goolies. I don't blame them.
