In my job I see the good and the bad of getting older. If you have your faculties then make the most of it and raise hell! Itโs the slow decline of those with dementia that fills me with horror. I have a Advance Directive aka Living Will, and a feisty daughter who is under strict instructions to give them hell if the medics ignore it. Just had a 98 year old tell me there is โplenty of timeโ for her to write her Will! Please give me that level of optimism!!

Well Trina I'm giving you 12 years and have had the same rollercoaster getting here, wives are numbered 1,2 & 3 it's been OK as Chris and I have managed 38 years of what can be described as a curates egg. I've no regrets or perhaps just one, that I didn't meet Chris sooner. I have just started to accept that despite my claims to be Superman I am in fact quite mortal and am now blessing each day I wake up. As far as health is concerned nowt wrong (that I know of) apart from a few age related niggles dodgy knees and such. One thing I do know is that I'm not quite ready to go yet. Phil

Jane's Mum (90 years old, about 5 stone, extreme dementia) was taken into hospital yesterday, in pain, with no way of establishing why. Jane raced home of course to be with her. It appears likely that a haematoma on her Mum's leg is infected again. They feel that she is too frail to have IV anti biotics and pain relief, so are trying patches and oral. Hopefully she will quickly be comfortable again, and will be back in the Care Home tonight. My brother's Mum in law is 90, still driving and very physically and mentally astute. I would happily live to 120 if I could be guaranteed to be like the latter, but frankly, a pillow over my head seems preferable to the former. Old age is a git! Rog Hope they're both doing ok.. thoughts are with you all x
BUT
I'm glad I'm old ................

Sorry that this is nothing to do real old age,but I'm 60 this year & have no idea how this has happened. One minute I'm leaving college at 21.Then I'm 25 & having a manic time with 3 boyfriends from 3 different places๐.Then I'm 30 & getting married for a verrrrry short time๐ฃ.Then I'm 32 & getting together with my other half-28 yrs together & 21 yrs married.Early retirement from teaching in 2014 & now a lazy, plumpish tart.Where have those years gone ?Have to say,I'm a happy bunny but 60 has crept up on me ๐. So appreciate what you say but no creeping for me, Mrs BB .....
all or nothing
BUT
I AM paying for that - me various veins are killing me now ..... and I SO wish I'd never sold my boat for "love".
Well done to you and your man, you happy bunny x

Just set yourself a challenge....60 cakes in 60 places... my 60 glasses of champers is just 8 away from completion.... ..its bin very expensive for friends n family....... Keep looking at myself in the mirror-can't decide whether I'm looking good for my age or I'm delusioned.Mmmm have to add that I'm blind in one eye & short sighted in the other...๐ฉ

Know what you mean Trina, when I look in the bathroom mirror and say "good grief man you're looking rough there is a strange echo from down the boat that sounds like "you are so right " Oh and Deborah I know you will be just fine Phil

Thank you for the kind comments. Jane 's Mum is doing ok on the oral anti biotics and morphine patches. She's back in the Care Home and is settled, comfortable and largely pain free. I may even get Jane back with me tomorrow if today goes well, we'll see. The tragedy of old age is that by the time you realise you're passing the point at which you can look after yourself, it's too late to do anything about it. All any of us can do is try to enjoy every day, not waste time focussing on negatives, and look after each other. None of us are getting out of this alive Rog

I think the trick is to keep at it, doing whatever you can. I've outlasted my Mum and Dad, they died at 50 and 55, so I count my blessings, enjoy each day. I'm still 6 3/4 in my head, somebody has sneaked in the bladder of an old man while I wasn't looking. They say it's the last drop that goes down your leg and stains your trousers, these days it's the first drop!
There's a cure for the last drop syndrome now, no more shaking or whacking it on the porcelain to get rid. They transplant a nasal hair onto the end of your owd fella, when you've peed it sniffs up the last drop.
